Professional sport is often won and lost on the finest of margins. If a small advantaged can be gained by having tactical throw ins, it’s worth doing.

I’m often amazed at how frequently our corners fail to beat the first man. As a professional footballer, crossing the ball unchallenged at the right height, depth and pace should be a simple skill. It would become simple if practiced for 30 mins every day.

We should have at least 5 well drilled corner moves prepared. It just feels like we’re lobbing it into the middle hoping a Palace head will get to it. We have about 8 corners a game which really should yield more goal scoring opportunities than it does.

In our early years andy thorn was the near post flick on. That's how pardew scored in the semi way back. We got a few goals like that. I cant understand how it's not used more. When ben was scoring under bfs I'm sure some were from this tactic.

When not injured, Connor Wickham was superb at throw ins....as good as a free kick if done right.

So a couple of years ago for about 5 minutes we were OK at throw ins.

Such a shame that would appear to be the damn truth of it

If there were statistic Palace would be top of the the league for losing possession, this team never set up for a Throw on/in.. watch more closely then watch the other team....

I think the stats show you are just as likely to lose possession from throw ins as you are to keep it and that applies to all teams.

throw ins poor again yesterday - we just look clueless.

Can i add half way line freekicks too. Last night had 3 or 4. Instead of getting them in the box we took them short and ended up going backwards, often to the goalie.

This is an attacking position. Either get it in the box or target a runner down the line. Clueless last night

I have raised this point on HOL and I was incandescent with rage witnessing free kicks in the opposition half passed backwards and then to the goalkeeper.

Err, with respect, you do realise this thread is about 'THROW-IN's' not 'free kicks'

Very remiss of me.
My comments were in response to a post apropos free kicks.
I am deserving of a 'Freekick' in the undercarriage department for my transgression!

Throw ins have been a big problem for us for a few seasons now and it predates Roy but how do we correct this and should there be coaching or at least practise sessions. Yes there should be practise at the very least maybe left sided versus right sided maybe. Another poster mentioned free kicks but generally we tend to pass back and back until Guaita has to kick upfield some times no further than when it started.
Roy has done wonders making us better defensively but free kicks, throw ins and passing backwards? Bring back Damo with his diagonal clearances which seemed to be more successful than just fiddle faddling.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).
