On the U.S. broadcast, they said that Eze's corner was his first of the season. Is that true? Was it his first free kick also?

If both are true, one wonders if a player has ever chalked up an assist and a goal on his first two set-piece opportunities.

Maybe first free kick but definitely not first corner

Great result. Ayew definitely more suited to us than Batshui .
Eze was great. Good overall performance, think that Clyne bottled it for their goal, should have gone through the ball , think he was worried about giving a penalty away, poor decision.
4-1, that’s a hiding.

I did wonder where was Dann for the goal? Not blaming him but we seemed a bit at 6s and 7swhich is unusual

Really impressed by the strength of the Palace bench.

Some very good personnel not even making it.

Agreed

Have the rules changed?

It used to be you couldn’t be offside by a part of the body that couldn’t score, thus his shoulder (or upper arm now) had to be offside.

His arm was offside because he was pointing. The rules were followed to a tee.

You can now sore with the t-shirt section of your arm i.e upper arm/ shoulder. Sakho would have scored against Villa last season

Indeed but that one should’ve stood last season, it came off his shoulder/back not his upper arm, another shocking VAR decision.

VAR was introduced to help the referee, it has gone way way beyond that, changing the rules again now will mean starting the whole season again because previous results will be wrong so we will have to watch this utter crap for the rest of the season, so games being ruined and results being ruined is what we have.
There is no way on earth that Zaha's pass to Meyer was offside against Southampton, there was no way on earth that Bamford was offside and there was no way on earth that Everton were going to score the winning goal when they headed the ball into Ward, just three examples of lunacy.

I know we won and I am delighted to have sealed a 4-1 victory and three points but I cannot help feeling that Leeds were robbed of a perfectly good goal and the injustices of VAR have to be highlighted for the benefit of all EPL teams in the long run.

Shockley Park allegedly have finer lines than the ones we are shown on the TV (Why aren’t we shown those?!) but yesterday, on the visual from the VAR team, the line drawn on Nathaniel Clyne was clearly about 5-6 inches wrong, having been drawn from the inside of the sleeve and not the outside of the sleeve, which was also away from his body. This would have confirmed that Bamford was onside.

There is also the position of Kouyate (partially obscured by Bamford) and even his furthest forward foot is goal side of Bamford, a line drawn from his left boot or the edge of his left hip would likely have also played Bamford on side.
It is not just the interpretation of the laws. VAR is badly flawed and is getting crucial decisions wrong.

Yes it was shocking and worse watching it.

The game needs goals and it needs to encourage goals VAR should give the benefit of doubt to the attacking team also it should only be the object nearest the ground to help with drawing the line along the ground and that happens to be the foot, it is so bleeding obvious it hurts, using feet in pic you can see all three are in line so the attacking player gets it in my book.

You’re right but it won’t happen. Apparently you have to decide whether to be a ref or an assistant ref and you don’t ever then move to other role. So no Assistant Refs will ever be actual refs (in the Premier League that is)

Sorry PA, you are very wide of the mark.

The match official & the 4th official are of the same level, the 2 assistants are from reffing in lower leagues working their way up the ladder, so if good enough they will officiate at a higher level due to promotion.

Now, with the EPL, its different set up, being that the 30 refs are professional, ie, paid a wage, EFL refs only get a fee. There are 10 Epl matches, on average, per w/e, therefore you will have 10 elite refs in the middle, 10 elite refs as 4th official & the other 10 either at Stockley Park with VAR or in the lower leagues reffing.

IF, assistants want to become an elite ref, they have to 1: get promoted & 2: give up their work to enable them to join the elite refs.
