We have just named an under 23 team with 3 players who have England caps, and 1 player with France caps.

I'm not complaining.

5 with England caps if including Zaha

Not part way through the season it shouldn't.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Not sure I agree. The big clubs have enough players to rotate their team sheets if they are that concerned about injuries. The smaller clubs often can't even muster five first-team quality players for the bench. It is a definite advantage to bigger and wealthier clubs.

If it has to happen though they need to limit it to three occasions on which you can make a sub (like before) and possibly stop injury time subs to prevent time wasting. Maybe they could even say that two out of the five have to be U23 players.

Let’s get shot of Benteke, Wickham and Meyer. Bingo! £300k per week saved.

Looking at the team against Leeds I was thinking wow what a bench, then I thought at a time when Clubs have no money is our squad to big.

Out injured, Suspended or not in Squad

Milo - Lost form
Ward - Last legs
Tompkins - Should start when back
Meyer - Not good enough
Hennessy - Not good enough
Henderson - Not good enough
Ferguson - Signing Clyne suggests he's out for a long time
Jach - Terrible
Wickham - Terrible
Mitchell - Behind PvA

And thats without the great kids coming through

Just my review of those you've listed, only a few good enough to actually play for us.

If it does than why haven't enough PL clubs backed the two calls?

It would be interesting to know which clubs have backed the call and which have rejected it. My money would be on the bigger clubs saying yes and we smaller ones saying no. It would also be interesting to know why those clubs which have rejected the call twice don't want it. I suspect they see it as yet another advantage for the big boys.

It is felt that there remains a sizeable opposition from the smaller clubs who feel it gives an advantage to those with stronger squads.

Top clubs believe that some clubs originally opposed to 5 subs are starting to have a change of heart. It is believed that W.Ham and 2 other clubs who originally voted against keeping 5 subs are thought to be ready to reconsider.

A total of 14 clubs would have to vote in favour of 5 subs and I doubt there is this level of support.

Giving fringe players actual game time is a huge bonus for smaller clubs, how on earth are these players ever going to be able to show what they can do when under the spotlight of an actual tough competitive game and amongst the best players they've ever played against, nothing else can ever produce this actual scenario, There will be gems born during the season, players just like AWB are allowed the opportunity with more options out of five subs, it will not help the big clubs because youngsters will absolutely love the opportunity to play them and do their stuff to prove to their own clubs that they should be picked.

Yes, our squad is too big. We top the league for having the tallest players (squad average) in the Premier League at 184.2. Manchester City with an average height of 178.9 are comparative pygmies compared to us.

Does that answer the question?

It depends what we mean by 'biggest'. You have identified us as the 'tallest' but I wonder which club has the 'heaviest' first team squad of 25 (bearing in mind that those under 21 don't count so they can be ignored so we're talking about the 25 who do count). I've got no idea.

Other stats to consider are:
- who has the quickest squad?
- who has the slowest squad?
and I'm sure other posters will come up with other categories to amuse us during the boring international break. Talking of which, by the time we come to play the current English champions, will they have a defence left?

Not in my view we would have the likes of City and Liverpool not starting their Strongest 11 with multi million pound players in their place and making lots of changes with half an hour to go if required and blowing the smaller teams away when they are starting to tire.
It’s hard enough to compete now why make it harder by changing the rules.
