I wonder whether football will ever emulate rugby, where the players don't just take turns to line up and applaud their opponents off the pitch, but - certainly at a number of junior clubs - accompany that with a rousing three cheers. Can't see it somehow.

Quite a few junior clubs already do it at games ive reffed in buckinghamshire.. It did make me laugh when I heard one lad mutter 'even though they were sh1t' which made all the other players giggle.

4 playoff finals, Claridge, Hopkin, Shipperley, Phillips....

Life's never dull!

on and off ST since 96, but continuously from 2011-2019 taking the kids since 2012. spent seasons in all 4 stands. Wont be getting another for a while..

Fans outside of the fanatics the ground has lost its buzz unless we are winning and few people sitting near me know the words to the songs. Never used to be that way.

Prices I have 3 kids - they rotate who comes. what was £330 is now £1000. Its great that the club is is financially safe and I'm lucky that I can afford it, but many can't afford to watch their local team... and that's wrong.

VAR ruined the game... they emotion of a goal has been taken away from us... by a TV screen

So I've Been watching Hillingdon Borough & Wycombe Wanderers a bit. I cant get excited over seeing them win and I don't have goosebumps on the way to a game like I do walking past Tasty Jerk on a cold afternoon, but it feels like being at a proper football match

Stand behind the goal at Wycombe or move around the stands chatting to mates and the families of kids I've coached over the years. Feels a bit like 90s Palace away days..

I'll still take my youngest to Palace games - I owe that to him same as the other 2 but I wish he could have seen, heard and felt what the older 2 experienced. How would we get it back?? Now that's a question...

Yannick Bolasie started his career at Hillingdon Borough and Alan Smith used to manage Wycombe Wanderers.
Neil Smillie and Peter Taylor have also managed the club.

If I had £1 for every time my Uncle told me about Yannick Bolasie... Id have £6.. maybe 7

Bolasie apparently bailed the club out a few years ago when they were strapped for cash and about to drop out of their league. A measure of the man....

This is a great thread for us wistful and grumpy old men - I love it!
I would go hear from some younger supporters to give it some perspective tjough.
Also - the bit about Bolasie - top bloke if he did that!
That is what it should be about - give not take!

I started falling out of love with attending matches around 2000, I just wasn’t enjoying the whole match day experience any more, due in part to the soulless atmosphere of all-seater stadiums, the ever increasing prices to get in and the ridiculous player salaries but since moving to Shropshire I have started watching Wrexham occasionally and have really enjoyed it. Like another poster said the pre-match anticipation and the excitement of winning isn’t there but at least I find myself enjoying being at a football match again.
