Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

I grew up in the 1970's. All the presents I got were just that bit below what all my mates had.
My mates had Star Wars Stuff.
My parent went down to the market and got me a "Star Battle" duvet cover and pillow set. The colours faded after about the 3rd wash.
Same with trainers. Whilst my mates has Nike, Puma and Adidas, I got some market knock-off Nika, Pume or Adeedas shiite.

My mum knitted me a football club replica jumper because we didn't have the money to buy such items.

It keeps you grounded,....

And as for toys, I wanted the TCR super set where your electric cars could change lanes to overtake, whilst going round the Monaco circuit.

What I got was a Scaletrix 'figure of 8' set with 2 cars from the 1950's, that I believe got 'broken' somehow and only used a couple of times.

Buying cheap is just throwing your money away.

Would have loved a Millennium Falcon, the smugglers trap door looked amazing

Never had the Evil Knieval stunt bike but played with others and it was pretty good

I also wanted a BMX with those plastic 'mag' wheels, but my parents were boring so I had one with proper spokes instead

But I did have all the A-team figures and accessories, they were great

The Chopper was the 'must have' bike. Scared parents either got a Grifter or Commando for their kids. I got a Commando, and it was 5hlt. Some idiot stole it, which I was well pleased about

Then my dad found out who'd nicked it, and I got it back a few days later

All our presents came from east lane market, i got the Palace Sash kit but it was knitted out of the same fibre you use for loft lagging. We also got a bmx that I'm sure was surplus soviet army stock and had the mobility of an oil tanker. Worked out well though as we used to play a game of dare were you would cycle at each other and last to put their foot down would win. Me and my brother were undisputed champions for years as the boy with bmx mongoose went home in tears with a mangled bike... Happy days

There used to be a sports shop in Forest Hill and I got a pair of Adidas boots in there for about £3 in a sale. They had orange stripes rather than white but beggars can’t be choosers. Then Woolworths brought out a pair of Winfield boots that looked the same. I spent more time cleaning the Adidas name off than playing football.
