My first game was in 1952 towards the end of Len Choules first season with Palace. As others have said, I’ve never heard Glaziers ever been shoutedfrom the terraces, but the claret shirt with light blue stripes will always be my favourite. On a slightly different subject, the only “Chopper” I recall at that time was Roy Greenwood our left back. This nickname was later adopted by another full back, Alfie Noakes.

Yes, I was there that day and saw the challenge as clear as day.

Do I remember correctly that it was just after half-time, early second half?

I imagined that Revie had put the word out to 'take care' of Craven. Before that, Leeds couldn't handle him in any way. Two goals and flying.

And so Leeds got the draw and the Hunter challenge says it all for me about that 'great' Leeds team.

That tackle was used in the opening credits of Match of the Day for ages afterwards

Remember the sequence, awful tackle in the centre circle, but was in not the Big Match opening? My memory is diminishing

The worst one I remember watching (and hearing) was Ian Evans against Moan.U when his leg snapped around the ground, horrendous.

I was eight years old when they had the 'brand' change, as they'd call it now. I always think club colours are like your flag and shouldn't be messed about with too much. I think Millwall and Charlton fans saw the change as a bit of a joke, like we're trying to be big time charlies - I was disappointed with the kit change at the time, it was the Don Rogers kit the season before which is a thing of beauty, likewise the pinstripes that preceded it - and those kits had a real Palace look (whatever that is). Some fan told me he went off Palace for a while in 73/74 when we lost at home 2-1 to Blackpool with our poor performance silencing the new 'eagles' chant. I didn't know what people were chanting for months (sounded more like -heave-ho' than eagles) but people went for it bcos it all represented our attempt to progress from our history as an inconsequential lower league club - then we headed straight back to the lower leagues! I remember us beating Preston at home 2-0 in the 76 season, it was a night game, we won 2-0 our first home win for four months and 'Eagles, eagles' rang around the whole ground to the tune of 'auld lang syne'.

My view in retrospect agrees with another poster that it was part of copying 'soccer' when it was taking off in USA at that time - all a bit commercial and contrived, but the red and blue is Palace now and I love the original red and blue kit - we need darker blue. The diagonal stripe has a real Palace look to it. It's a funny thing with kits, some designs you really associate with a club while others don't stick. I preferred Sheffield Wednesday when they went back to their blue Arsenal kit a few seasons back, the blue Sunderland doesn't work for me. We need to shake our kit up a bit more, not with some of the halves and broad stripes we've had lately, but red socks and/or shorts now and again, and our away kit should always have either the diagonal or the vertical red and blue stripe whether the main part of the kit is yellow, white, black or whatever. As for the Glaziers - nice old fashioned name but it seems noone ever referred to the actual team that way. Once a glazier always a glazier? nah!
