With everyone saying how excellent Eze was again last night, I'm going to put my tin hat on and complain.......

Several times, when he took possession of the ball he sodded about twisting, turning and generally showboating, when there were players in position for a good through pass to be made much sooner. In most cases we ended up losing the ball because by the time he did come to play it through Burnley had every man and his friend back in defense.

I know Wilf used to be the same a few years ago,and Eze's only young, so maybe someone should have a word.

Personally, in terms of Eze's performance I cannot find much to complain about.

He was our 'Shining light' and I never concluded that he was "Showboating". In the first half when he was deployed wide he was often surrounded on the touchline and had to try and wriggle free of players in close attention.

Over the years I have heard players, many young, criticised about their so called "Decision making" and we can all forensically examine the finite details and assert they could have done better on certain instances. In terms of pass selection when there is a dearth of movement ahead and a 'Low block' it is challenging to find players in advanced spaces.

In terms of his 'Vision', I recall Eze bursting past his marker on the left, advancing in goal and picking out McArthur on the left whose pass eluded Batshuayi. In the second half I recall an incisive pass inside the right back to find PVA.

Eze is young, this is his first season in the PL and thus far he has shown that he is an exciting talent who will get even better with experience.

What amazes me most is that our best player of modern times is played out of position because of Townsend. What a waste.

(For convenient example: when Wilf played on the right at Turf Moor, two seasons ago, he tore them apart)

This is so true. It amazes me that Wilf plays everywhere except his best position. Stick him back on the right, where he would finally get some support from RB now Clyne has settled back in, have Eze on the left and Benteke and Ayew up top.

I concur! Take Eze's performance out of last night and it would look even darker.

Agreed, and let’s get two of Cahill, Tomkins and Sakho in the middle of defence. Not sure on my two central midfielders though but perhaps Kouyate should be in alongside one of McCarthur, McCarthy or Reidewald - it won’t happen though :-(

Personally I am not enamoured with playing Eze out on the left.As was proved at QPR he is far more effective in central areas but we cannot play him centrally in a "2" so we would have to play a "3" in midfield to get the best out of him.

Alternatively if we possessed attacking full-backs we could have a more narrow "4" in midfield with Eze not pinned out wide.

I believe a Giroud or Antonio would be suited to us but I don't expect to see them in our colours.

We are still to an unhealthy degree a one player team. Had Zaha been playing I don't think the first half performance would have been so bad, and Burnley would have set up differently. But we were unlucky in that some of their key players cam back, and as a result played much better than their meagre haul of points warranted?

What struck me yesterday was the fact we struggled so much to retain possession in the first half and in the second seemed confused of how to actually attack the Burnley goal despite a lot of possession in their half.

My conclusion was that usually when we gain possession in a game, we look straight to Wilf. When he's not there, it seemed as though no-one knew what to do with the ball.

Makes you wonder if they run attacking drills or actually have any tactical instruction at all?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

...and then being professionally fouled I understand we do it also to other teams trying to break us down but I do seriously think that something has to be done to properly punish this sort of behaviour because at the moment it is a real frustration for the players and fans watching, it basically ruins what could be a brilliant move and goal something the media would play over and over again, the four occasions we had Burnley running backwards and panicking had created a higher chance of a goal for us then when they were all back defending a freekick (freekicks we ferked to death on each occasion) This happens so much more to teams like us.

I know there are a lot who dislike Schlupp however last night could have been a good game to play him left of midfield to firm things up and push Eze into a forward position that Wilf would usually take up.

That said, it wouldn’t have necessarily eliminated the error for our goal!

Schlupp and Eze need to be playing along side each other in every single game and not anywhere near the sidelines.

I do wonder what the game plan the players have to achieve by half time. Keep it to 0-0? Take the lead and counter attack? Go behind and look clueless for the rest of the game because there is no plan B?
The team looks rudderless, and this I would put down to the management.

Whilst i agree with you, for the life of me, i cannot understand why the attacking team doesnt ask the ref " quick kick please ref", no waiting around for the defending team get back in their alloted positions, if the ref say ok go for it, its up to your teamates to be 'switched on' enough to receive the ball & score. Yes, the defending team will winge & moan 'they wern't ready', tough, their problem not yours OR the refs. Simples.

We would only pass it back to Kouyate who would then pass it back to our keeper to lump it upfield to our small forwards to lose it in the air to the opposition defenders - As you can see I’m still seething from watching this happen last night ;-)
