Apparently it is a deal done on not much more than a handshake and not discussed in polite company And a lot of critical voices within the R.O.I who believe they should be able to effectively police their own airspace.

Some noises made recently about them maybe buying Swedish jets.

Well I hope the Irish keep the lights on for our fighter jets.

One more point

Yeah, I've heard about that as well.

But the Irish are still undecided as to whether they want to spend the time building the IKEA sets.

A good point however do we really want to get into a bidding war with China as to how much money we give a despicable regime?

China is actually doing some good in building railways and transport infrastructure in Africa however it comes at a high political price. The Chinese are quite happy to ignore human rights abuses whilst arm twisting the local government to get its way.

I think the way we compete is to allow Africa greater access to our markets.

I honestly think its one of the few things Boris has got semi right.
I'd scale back the foreign aid budget even further, Were burning money to appear virtuous & get very little if anything in return.

The foreign aid cut may not fly, as it is a legal obligation and will require a change in the law.

Not that the UK has any respect for international law anymore anyway.

This was actually trumpeted by the tories at the time as enlightened and beneficial (Justin Greening).

Swedish jets are in high demand right now because they're allowed to patrol the global aerospace at will while all other jets are locked down

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Yeah, they are known for getting shot down at slightly higher rates than their Nordic neighbours but get to enjoy much more of a social life.

Exactly. It's money that greases the wheels rather than charity as such.

Who cares if it's legal or not, is some third world country going to sue? We've more people living off food banks and facing unemployment/recession. Charity begins at home and home is where it should stay.

People need to realise we have sleep walked into a cold war with China and we have pretty much lost the fight on this front already.
