I use " tonking " in terms of the score but also I would not devalue the performance because of the nature of the goals. IMHO apart from a lapse when Bamford scored we were in the right place tactically, physically and mentally.

Similarly, our last two games have seen individual errors being punished but also IMHO a visible lack of the same level of overall effort as against Leeds. I am not going down the no Zaha red herring debate.quote=Willo;3579426]

We only scored 1 of the 4 goals from 'Open play' and that was at the end when Leeds had realised the game was lost.
We scored a goal from a corner, a free kick and an OG from Helder Costa.

Apropos the last couple of games, a combination of not taking chances and conceding some poor goals was our downfall.

Win a couple of games in a row, and '' the way things are going '' change again.

The Burnley and Newcastle results were very disappointing. I thought beforehand that 4 points were achievable. To come away with no points or goals isn't good enough.

Looking beyond the results and focussing on performance, I think it was the perennial finishing problem that made the difference. And 2 decent performances from opposition goalkeepers.

It's a fact of life that we are over reliant on Wilf. If he returns at West Brom I'm hoping that will give everyone a lift.

I think we all saw the difference with Wilf and Eze playing together. we had 2 creative players which caused problems for the opposition. When we only have one of them on the pitch they are marked out of the game.

Townsend has a tremendous work rate however his creative has gone we need another winger.

One more point

Absolutely spot-on, but I would add also abject defensive lapses.

In terms of goalkeepers, Nick Pope is renowned for his terrific shot-stopping ability, and I understand that in training he is hard to beat in small-sided games and in shooting sessions after training.
Karl Darlow is another excellent shot stopper but in the past has been criticised for not being so good dominating his box when the ball is in the air and he has to come and collect under pressure.

Perhaps we should test these good "shot stoppers" by having more shots. I'd be a good shot stopper if no one shot at me.

To my mind it's all about who scores first. If we do, we can hang on. If we don't, we lose.

And at the start of the season we started games on the front foot and scored first. Now the familiar nerves appear to have set in and we begin defensively and wait for the opposition to score, before trying to rescue the game.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

This is the Premiership, one would expect the opposition to have a decent keeper. More to the point is why, when in a good position, our forwards prefer to shoot straight at the keeper rather than the space to either side, or dink it over him? I politely suggest extra training, whereby our miscreant forward line have to practice repeatedly chipping a cardboard cut-out until they get a perfect 10/10 score.

The point I was making in the OP was that there has been a change of momentum. As we approached the end of October we had beaten So'ton and Manchester U., we deserved a draw against Everton, yes we were dire against Chelsea, but we were good enough to have beaten Brighton, and we then beat Fulham. Since then, one win in four games, no goals in three of them.

Wilf, or the lack of Wilf, has obviously been a factor. But is it not also the case that we were trying to play more positively in the earlier games and that we've now just reverted to type?

I agree with most of your comments but have to ask you did you actually watch the game against Brighton?.. we didn't have a single shot, on or off target, in the whole game.. and we only scored from a dubious penalty.. the tactics were awful, we were awful and hardly ventured in the Brighton half, probably one of the worst performances I've seen from a Palace team and I've been following them home and away since the late 60's.. I hate to say it but the weed deserved to beat us that night and if they were a half decent side they would've beaten us by a few too.. we are too inconsistent, one week we can play attractive entertaining football, even score goals, the next week we look like strangers, a side that's just been picked at random from the streets of SE25.. why?..

Bar the odd freak result, we are pretty much a bang average team that never changes the ways it plays, rely on one player with our so called forward line (Ayew an exception ) with zero interest in putting in the effort required on or off the pitch.

Tekkers, Wickham, Batts need to be moved on ASAP and fresh blood injected into the team and also management.

Yet again we are just treading water making sure we average a point a game, regardless of his it’s done. The club is as stale as it comes.

Agree with most apart from moving Bats on .Although he is not actually our player at moment. Would wait to see how bats performed from now on in .Definitely think he is an improvement on Ayew ,and personally think he has a bit more about him but time will tell .
