time has suddenly caught up with our central defenders and defensive midfielders - we looked spoilt for choice for centre halves not long ago, and apart from jairo we have no playmakers in deep midfield (Schlupp and Eze play up the pitch), only 'ratters': the two macs, luca and kouyate (I'm not counting Meyer as playmaker or even a player). PVA is irresponsible, Ward is only OK, Clyne is still on his way back and we bought an injured teenager as back up. We have taken our eye off the ball with certain positions, identifying strikers and wingers as the priority, the club do groom replacements from the youth and under 23s, Mitchell is still learning but he is solid with a great attitude, but I haven't heard of any young centres back knocking on the door. Big clear out needed in the summer - so much high salaried deadwood now at the club. Our defensive problems are usually rectified with Roy's 7-0-3 formation, but all that closing down seems to be tiring our old boys out.

One can see the rationale behind this statement but alas there is precious little,if any, sell-on value for our 'Dad's Army' and perhaps the only monies available for replacements will be from the sale of Zaha, not forgetting of course the 20% Sell-On clause.

One suspects that some contracts, due to expire in the summer will be extended, much to the chagrin of supporters.

A change of ownership could of course result in the provision of adequate transfer funds.

Bugger my zimmer frame, I just threw mine away, I am 78 years old and love my team with a passion.
You are all 50 years younger than me, get up off your asses and perform. I want to see a 6-0 result from playing the bottom side. Got it ?
By the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR from OZ. 2021 will be a year of dramatic change for everyone.
Bugger, I am tired too much Broadside, I am off to bed. ZZZZZZZZZZ.

Yep. As I've said elsewhere, he's looked good in the U23 games I've seen (improved on last year imo).

As I've also said elsewhere, he should be given a chance alongside Tomkins (who played alongside him in the U23 game against Newcastle) or Cahill, (if/when fit). Hope Woods gets a starting slot against Wolves in the Cup.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Sorry to say but Cahill should have packed it in last season. His stats this year are terrible;

7 games started
19 goals conceded
0 clean sheets
5 points from 21 available

With all the experience and quality he should be leading the defence. Twice tonight him and Kouyate almost sparked themselves out going for the same ball. You’d expect that from Sunday league defenders not somebody with 550 league appearances.

I thought the back four did OK tonight, helped by Andros who put in a tireless shift.

The problem lies with midfield where there is a lack of urgency and some sloppy passing, with slow recovery times when the ball has been lost.

We’re constantly being overrun.

Nor am I sure that our skipper is providing sufficient quantities of determination and motivation.

It might help if Roy could demonstrate an a bit more passion and encouragement from the touchline.

He did manage to look very cross and shout a bit when there was the clash of heads.....
