The lead singer of the Clash died 18 years ago yesterday. Found this video of him talking about music and thought it was pretty interesting. This was with a lineup that replaced the originals Topper Headon and Mick Jones though and think they were on a downward slope around this time.

Just my opinion, but probably one of the most overrated bands of all time

They made a few good records and related to many. It was done by this point though, Joe was living in his own head.

Has anyone ever played Sadinista all the way through Clash used to slag off prog rock bands for making double concept albums and then release a triple album, That said London calling is still a good listen. Topper Headon lives in Dover

Topper wasn't an original member. Drummer on the first album was Terry Chimes / Tory Crimes. He runs a chain of therapy centres.

This incarnation was probably the line up that recorded cut the crap.

A lot of bands go on to be self indulgent but at least the Clash spawned big audio dynamite. A band many say was years ahead of its time and a great influence on a number of others

The reason London Calling and Sandinista were double and triple albums was because of their multi album deal with CBS, they released these albums at the same price of a single album and made no money on them, just to annoy the record company.
I saw The Clash twice and they were brilliant

Better musicians? Yes. Better songwriters? Not even close, in my opinion. And lefties they may have been, but I don’t think they were establishment darlings as much as naive young people who soon changed their tune once they got a little bit of money.

and we can all agree that the Sex Pistols had lots of attitude and musically almost no talent at all.

The Clash were ahead of their time in the sense that they predicted what the BBC would become.
