Sorry - I haven't read the thread since the end of the game yesterday so excuse any repetition.
Our league record over the last 38 games is played 38 - won 10 - drawm 9 - lost 19 - GD is -23.
This would just about keep us up in a normal season.
I don't expect to get in to Europe or to win the League but I do expect us to be safe each season now without a worry - mid table mediocrity if you like.
Yesterdays defeat - there is no shame in losing away at Villa.
After all this is their second season in the Premier League and they narrowly avoided relegation last year so we fully expect to get embarrassed and thumped by them - of course we do!
We were clueless yesterday - part because of our ageing squad of course but more because our Manager puts square pegs in round holes ( just like Pardew)and then, when given the gift of playing 45 minutes against ten men does absolutely nothing to change tactics at all and just watches us turn up blind allies whilst letting in more goals and that to me is very scary indeed.
We have enough good players to have got a least a draw yesterday but we cannot do it.
Yes of course the players must take some of the blame but they play the way they are told to play bar some individual errors which happen to every team in every game.
There was no plan, no togetherness or team spirit, we played too slowly whilst Villa played at speed, we gave away needless free kicks - the list is endless.
The players do not look like they want to play for Hodgson now - it really shows in my opinion.
So many players playing out of position and one or two just not doing their jobs at all with PVA being the number one example of that - he is everything that is wrong in football today, bling and flashy with no substance - like Wickham - in love with being a footballer but not in love with football.
If the teams below us win their games in hand we are in 16th place albeit 7 points off the relegation spots and we shouldn't be.
We have Leicester next and let's be fair, they should on paper give us another thumping.
Our Manager needs to be relieved of his duties and we need someone who at least has a plan because right now we are absolutely not too good to go down this season.

Excellent post, well done.

This is a good summary I feel? I don't think now is the time to get rid of Roy but perhaps in the Summer?

PVA needs to learn a thing or two from Wilf in tracking back quickly. His jog back for the first goal was a disgrace. With Ward now looking past his sell buy date in terms of speed, Mitchell and Ferguson (when fit) should be the wing backs. Roy needs to return to basics with this group, rotate if need be either due to fitness or form and play players in their favoured positions. The likes of PVA and Tekkers both need to be dropped and shipped out if need be and any other player unprepared to put a shift in. Luckily yesterday we weren't playin either of the two Manc clubs as double figures could of been attained.

For tomorrow's game if we don't get somebody to shackle Vardy, unlike Grealish (he had twenty yards behind and in front of him at some stages !?!) then it could be a similar horrorshow.

Losing 3 nil to a team a man down is unforgivable to be honest.

I think Roy seems to hover between ok and not good enough. We have bad streaks and then good streaks. Ultimately a complete lack of consistency. The loss doesn't fully surprise me though. Lack of investment and too much reliance on Zaha..

Things should change but will they?

I think Roy has had his day, but even so, I can't see replacing him right now as making any real difference given the lack of investment on the pitch.

And so with that said, as mundane as it sounds, I think the best option is to keep plugging away and hope we can recover some form again. We've looked good this season at points so clearly the ability is there in some form..

We looked like a veterans team playing a bunch of eager youngsters.

All the short termism that permeates the club could come home to roost this season.

The back 4 are short of pace. PVA goes AWOL but there isn't anyone covering for him anymore. The central midfield yesterday consisted of a yellow card per game liability and a 33 year old who never hides but just can't influence games anymore. Eze has been a major disappointment over the last 3 games - he's flavour of the month with the pundits, but he's looked out of his depth recently.

It's sad when you see a players ' legs go '. Back in the day I watched Micky Droy go very suddenly and more recently and more gradually, Jason Puncheon. I looked at yesterdays team thinking Luka, McArthur, Dann are at various stages of the process. 3 out of 10 outfield players.

The way Leicester play, it's hard to see anything other than another defeat, potentially another heavy one. Hodgson needs to shuffle the pack although currently that resembles rearranging the lifeboats on the Titanic.

We need to get points on the board, so I think Roy will consider reverting back to more trusted ways and try to make us harder to play against.

Mr. Parish needs to find some money in this window - but of course, we all know how that usually turns out.

Well said Neillo.

Did we really expect anything else this season though. The RH/SP combination is only interested in survival (after all how else are we to pay for the new grandstand). Our squad as Roy says is the best he's ever had so why the results! Starts with the coaching and the abilities and attitudes of the players. The basic ball skills and positional sense are totally missing. PVA looks like a player interested in just a paycheck, it's criminal how he exposes our "defense" with his forward runs and causally jogs back only to repeat. Ward just hasn't the skills to play in this league. McArthur is too slow, Luka's temperament is a liability. Where is Meyer? Why is Wickham still in the squad having played a handful of games in how many seasons! The majority of our guys panic with the ball at their feet, they lack confidence and dare I say it, the ability to beat an opponent of any quality. We can't play a decent triangle without screwing it up and putting ourselves under pressure. Set pieces are a shambles, how many times has a corner failed to clear the near post? Why is Kouyate (our best passer) playing at CB with Tomkins warming the bench. Time to cull some of these "professionals" and get some talent in. But come the end of the season we reward them with contract extensions. We will survive again for another season, but for how long before management realizes the futility of it all, then it will be too late.

My biggest concern was just how poor the back 4 has become. Centre halves were all over the place and seemingly unable to cover even 10 men, pva doesn't seem to know where he's playing, ward was the only one who put a shift in, yet we have fit, and better, defenders on the bench.

Genuinely concerned

With Dann and Kouyate and Luka and Jimmy Mc I really don’t think we have a hope to break a team down except for magic from Eze or Zaha.

Jairo and Cahill would at least give us a chance of making some passes.

But Cahill is older and injured more, Jairo clearly is not a favourite even though except for Eze and Zaha or Andros he is the only one who can drive at a player or direct some play to create an opening.

I want to cry when I don’t see Jairo in the team it is seriously baffling when the other midfielders have been average for so long now

Reality is hitting home in a brutal fashion at the moment.

Villa had more energy. Newcastle had more energy. Even Burnley had more energy and they are bang average teams..

Mitchell should be playing 100% but I’m sure the PVA contract negotiations are having an impact on that possibility

Still it’s only Vardy and Barnes and Maddison next, we should be ok!!

Man made disasters are always caused by lack of investment and poor line management, compounded and unrelated circumstances which are always followed by an enquiry, and will ultimately assign responsibility to ensure it is never repeated.

We can readily see causes for disaster being compounded in real time. So wouldn't now be a good idea to open an enquiry? Of course it would.

Being somewhat obvious to Joe Public, it's a shame that it is less so to those with responsibility.

All the sh!t happens at the bottom, while those at the top are relatively unscathed. Ironic since those at the top are invariably assigned blame.

We need an enquiry before the crash happens.
Less CPFC, more CCFC (Car-Crash FC).

We don't seem to be able to field the same centre back pairing for even two consecutive matches.

PVA's forays upfield are now not being covered by a team mate.

The shift in the playing tactics is leaving the defence more exposed.

It's a mess at the moment.

Very Good summary, sadly we have now gone 14 PL without a clean sheet, when until recently that was our strong point, this team is not capable of expansive football as some have been requesting, we get caught on the break, our defenders are legless and they just cannot recover their shape or positions and this leads to silly unforced errors. As for Benteke, why we bother with him, he will never return to his former glory days and his legs have certainly gone!

The Directors of this club have the cash but there is a clear reluctance to spend, they seem happy to just see us drift back into danger and yes, some will blame Roy for team selection, tactics etc, but let's be honest he has done a fantastic job over the last 3-1/2 with a squad that has been inherited in the main from other managers and frankly a some have already said a high portion are now past their sell by date.

Not sure what else the manager is expected to do when he’s been so badly let down btw

Indeed, lets not blame the manager, he is just firefighting, how about the owners putting in a tidy sum next week and get a few quality signings to keep us up and push us on!
