Pardew's last 20 games before being sacked:

18 points
29 goals scored
38 goals conceded

Hodgson's last 20 games:

19 points
20 goals scored
35 goals conceded

9 of those 20 goals also came against Leeds & WBA so we have actually only scored 11 in the other 18 games.

Despite us having a better squad we have gone backwards.

When you put it like that.... it’s very alarming !!!

“This is a crisis, a large crisis.... in fact if you have a moment, it’s a 12 storey crisis, magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage , and an enormous sign on the roof saying “This , is a large crisis” - Edmund Blackadder

Not sure we have gone backwards but we have stagnated through poor player aquisition.
Looking back I think some of the players from Pulis's squad would walk into today's team comparatively speaking - we had the likes of Speroni, Ward, McCarthy, Dann, Jedi, Bolasie, Gayle, Murray, Punch, Chamakh et al.
Certainly Jedi, Murray and Bolasie (of those days) are far superior to what we currently have in their respective postions

We will have to agree to disagree as I don’t think any of the 3 you mention would get in our current team.

The current team is being stifled by the current manager etc.

Benteke would thrive under a Pulis or a Bug Sam.

Given the season is only 15 games in, Hodgson has another 4 defeat and draw if you expand that stat, whereas, Pardew went into that run on the back of reaching cup final.

It's unbelievable how much credit Roy gets.

Are the pundits still describing us as "well organised and difficult to break down"? Good job if we are, as if not, we would have conceded more than 10 goals in the last two games.

After yesterday they were saying that our attempt at attacking football wasn’t working and we were wide open in midfield as a result. Micah Richards closed by saying we needed to get back to basics.

Every time I hear someone say this is the best squad we’ve had I fall off my chair laughing. The drop off in performance between the age of 27 and 32 is massive at any level let alone the Premier League.

They are concerning statistics over a 20 game period.
Pardew’s record is -9 goal difference and Roy’s is -15.
And Roy’s reputation is based on defensive solidity and strong organisation.
It is evident that we have lost our defensive discipline with big gaps between the defenders and the midfielders and spaces between the full backs and central defenders.
This makes it very easy for teams to counterattack us.
If Roy does go back to basics it may well mean another spell with 3 solid midfield players and a reluctance to commit players forward.
If we retain 442 then the two central midfield players will need to play strict holding roles to avoid the central defenders being picked off.Have we got 2 players who can fulfil that role?
Luka is continually exposed as one of the two as he’s playing as if running through treacle and is a booking waiting to happen each game.
Mcarthur has been great for us but at this time in his career should not be starting every game as age seems to have caught up with him.
Much as I like Jairo , I’m not convinced about him as one of the central 2 midfielders .
Mcarthy could probably do the role but has large spells where he’s unavailable.
Perhaps to get some solidity back at least in the short term we need to play 3 midfielders to avoid being overrun.

Agree with all of that but would add that Dann has largely been our fifth choice centre back for the last two years even behind Kelly. The others have all become injury prone and Sakho looks overweight. Could barely get off the ground against Chelsea.

Defensively we are in a mess and perhaps just 1 'Clean sheet' in 23 games is understandable in the circumstances.

Scant protection in front of them of course with our ageing midfielders lacking in energy, vibrancy and pace.

I recall many moons ago seeing Tony Currie play for QPR - a class act, no pace but a great first touch and good vision for a pass, the best player on the pitch who had willing runners to lay the ball off to. There's the clue.
