Thanks Willo, but you didnt answer the Q?

I cannot see Schlupp being deployed at left-back tomorrow.

If in a 4-4-2, Schlupp is played at left-back and Eze ahead of him, I don't believe this plays to Eze's strengths.

It's remarkable that team selection can be based around finding adequate cover for a defender who can't defend. Square pegs round holes.

I was thinking exactly the same.
So if we play our defender that can’t defend (pva), we need schlupp playing on the wing to help him defend. But we are doing it so pva can get forward?
But if we play our defender that can defend (Mitchell), then we can play a winger Eze that can actually play as a winger. But Mitchell will just be defending ?
Brilliant.

Schlupp is a far better left back than both PVA (who I think is s***e) and Mitchell ( who I think is a decent player but has a lot to learn).
Schlupp isn’t scared to get stuck in and is a very versatile and valuable player IMO.

I think it’s more about having a left sided midfielder (eg Eze) who gives the ball away a lot and doesn’t support his left back. If it’s PVA, then he attacks too much and the left side is left open. You need that balance for which I believe we have with Schlupp as the left midfielder and PVA at left back. Schlupp is not only good in the air but scores occasionally and will support PVA. I’m not against playing Eze against a side like Sheffield Utd but it will need a player who defends better than PVA and that in my mind is Mitchell. Schlupp can play left back but has never looked that good in that position. Opinions I know, but that’s mine :-)

No problems there, but if we use Schlupp as LB, who do we use as left wing, Eze?

Mate

If it were me and everyone fit I'd go;

Gauita
Clyne, Tomkins, Cahill (C), Schlupp
Kouyate, Jario
Townsend, Eze, Zaha
Bats

No square pegs in round holes..!!

So putting Wilf back out left and playing Eze in the 10 role.

Won't happen of course because Roy will want to stick 4-4-2.

On Bats, I think he deserves a run - playing Benteke up front to hold it up ain't working.

yes, a forward not a defender.
While we are talking about forwards, what about King from Bournemouth, 13m. He would score at least 12 goals a season. Brooks would also be a sensation in m/f with Eze. Then we can release some older midfielders.
Eddie Howe new manager when Roy hangs his boots up.
Allow Benteke to depart gracefully for 15m. Good deal.
It would be the start of an entertaining, watchable team if we could keep Wilfred.

4-2-3-1 is a formation I'd favour too, if not the personnel in your team selection. I'd have Mitchell lb, Schlupp left mid, Zaha right mid. l Has a good balance between attack and defence. I agree that Eze should play centrally, he's not a winger despite what Hodgson thinks.

15m for Benteke wouldn't be a good deal - it would absolutely fanatastic !

Be a Christmas miracle, out of contract in June so can pre sign this window .. I sincerely hope that’s the end of the sorry Tekkers saga, but with Roy continuing to play him week in week out, got a terrible feeling he will get another 2 years of impersonating a number 9.

For me the problem is not that PvA gets caught out defensively when he goes forward, it's that he gets caught out defensively when he's defending.

He's so clueless positionaly that his recent farces (wandering off so that West Brom can play the pass inside him for their goal against us, brilliantly showing Salah inside onto his left foot to have the greatest possible chance of scoring against us for Liverpool) pass without comment because they're just the norm.

PVA's defensive frailties have been well documented but he does have a commendable scoring record for a defender.
I believe it was last season that I heard he had scored 18 goals in the PL, for us and Sunderland, which was the most for a PL defender at that time.

PLAY PVA AT WING BACK!

I’ve been crying out for this since we signed him. Such a great threat going forward. Either 3 at the back or a defensive midfielder drops deeper for cover when we’re attacking.

Likewise, Clyne is also quite attack minded in my opinion and could do the same. This would spread the pitch out, creating more space to manipulate the ball and move the opposition around.

Roy’s rigidity is infuriating, especially when you look at Villa, Leeds and Southampton‘s progress. We have a good Premier League squad, including PVA, it the players play with shackles on.

Agree 100%! Then he can concentrate on his offensive play because he knows zero about defending.
