The reality is that outside of the west the world is very different and operates very differently especially the poorer and less global it is. It's far more realistic to take other measures before you wait for world wide take up of vaccines. People from this country and others are still traveling or happily arranging to travel to the countries where the organisation of them is as you say extremely difficult, but it is a fact that the South African variant of Covid is here now in this country and it didn't board a plane by itself ....I hope.

The nature of the modern globalised world means that air travel is a major part of finance and leisure and everything in-between. Like the Internet it's a double edged sword (like most things in life). In one respect ease and speed of transportation is essential for first world economies but in another it speeds up the transportation of viruses and anything else negative as well. There's a trade off at some point obviously....but where that is I don't know. Realistically I've never been of the view that a virus can be kept out.....However, there's little doubt that countries which learnt from Sar 1 definitely implemented travel lockdowns and track and trace early and effectively. South Korea and others did that (due to a healthy distrust of China)..and track and trace can be really effective if implemented straight away on reducing early death tolls. However, over time it becomes less effective because you just can't keep down a highly infectious virus unless you have effective vaccines for it.....which has only just been the case. I went to the airport by train so wore the mask had breakfast at a diner in the airport removed mask for about 20 minutes at the table then back on. In Warsaw we were picked up by coach and told to keep masks on even in the hotel except your room. It was about 8 hours a long day before I could remove it. The following days we were sight seeing, except when we were walking in the open we all wore our masks. Every building we went into we had them on and I got told off for forgetting one time. Average time each day about 8 hours maybe longer. Just saying if you don't like wearing a mask it can ruin your holiday. Edited by Rudi Hedman (21 Mar 2021 1.00pm) This is a bit over the top Out of the 4000+ (probably double that now) mutations so far, only a handful have been an issue. And from what I can read all of the vaccines pre mutation still retain a reasonable effect regardless. I really don’t see the problem in requiring annual booster jabs that are tweaked according to whatever mutation is deemed problematic enough to be included. There is some validity in what is being said - I theorised about this months ago but essentially if the whole world was being vaccinated and continuing to be regularly vaccinated at the same time, no problem. Whether or not we vaccinate ourselves in entirety has little bearing on global restrictions being extended until most countries are up to speed. It does however benefit our economy. As has been said international travel is so commonplace, high volume and essential to economies these days that even if we’re all fine, there will always be plenty of people in close proximity when travelling internationally that will not. And that will persist for some time yet I still see masks and distancing being in effect on and off for the next 2 years at a minimum. 10 years until we no longer even talk about it, or worry about it, and it becomes as boring, manageable and everyday as the flu.
