Don't get too excited, it looks like football - and the whole country - is going into hibernation.

If all fit...

Butland

Woods
Sakho
Kelly
Mitchell

Townsend
Meyer
McCarthy
Riedewald
Pierrick

Ayew

I would usually say that given our position I'd like us to go for the cup, but as it would be unlikely to see us lift it if successful, I couldn't care less if we go out (which is likely anyway).

Sam Woods is NOT a RB, he is an out & out CB, you'd be better off swapping him with Kelly in your line-up.

Personally like to see a coherent 11 being fielded even if it does mean a fair few under23's. No round pegs in square holes please Roy. COYP !!

There's got to be more to our football life than PL survival so let's have a crack at the Cup, given realistically it is the only thing we could win along with the Carabao Cup.

Rest Wilf, Jimmy Mac, Guaita, Luka, Ward and Benteke

Play Sakho, PVA, Batshuayi, Dann and Woods.

Just avoid replays.

they aren't any replays this season, so that one's avoided!

I feel Sakho might not be risked due to the high probability of him picking up another injury which would scupper any move away.

MacCarthy has also barely featured despite being fit for a while. He used to be Roy's favourite 80th min substitute. So maybe there's some truth to the Celtic rumours.

Meyer may be another that we're surely desperate to shift so may not want to risk.

Tbh my priority would lie with shifting some of this expensive deadwood over being risked for a relatively meaningless cause. I'd rather take the punt on giving an u23 a bit of experience.

Agreed, also we need to see if Woods is ready to step up to the PL and a cup game against another PL team would be a good starting point.

It is possible they might have a fringe starting XI for the game. They do have a number of teenagers who have been on the bench recently in the PL.

this, except I'd be starting Banks over Ayew.
No point playing ayew on the right.

There’s got to be something going on we don’t know about involving Meyer and Hodgson. The fact that he doesn’t even make the bench any more no matter who’s missing makes me think he won’t be involved in this match either but I hope I’m wrong.

I don't expect him to be in the squad.
