Try asking people who've watched Liverpool or England over the last decade. You might finally work it out.

Didn't think there was any particular plan other than to get some game time into players that haven't played so much recently and most of those players let themselves down.

Still, at least it dispels the myth that Benteke is good at holding the ball up and the leggy Riedewald is the answer to our midfield problems which I keep reading from the so called judges on social media.

PVA looks as though he couldn't give a monkeys but Roy has manage that situation carefully in case Mitchell gets injured.

Only players who were OK were Tomkins, Ayew and McCarthy.

The thing I like about Riedewald is if you watch him when he receives the ball he either plays the way he is facing or he looks forward like any good midfielder should yet more often that not if their is no movement in front of him he has to play sideways or backwards and to be fair on him that isn't is fault.

But he's another that's slow and can't travel with the ball despite being younger. He's also not good or snappy enough out of possession.

You aint gonna get a player who's snappy in the tackle runs around a lot picks great passes and dribbles. They're very few like that he needs to play in a 3 man midfield or not at all simple Roy and this 4 4 2 is driving me mad.

Absolutely smashed by a two bob outfit!!! Disgraceful!!! Sack the lot of them, starting with that idiot Roy Hodgson!!! Then kick out Steve Parish!!! And those U.S. tossers!!! There for the taking!!! Such an easy game, all we needed to do was attack, attack, attack......

It was Wolverhampton Wanderers. Away. They have pumped a fair few quid into the team. I really despair of the 'supporters' these days.

And ffs stop using the word "turgid". I wouldn't mind if we did play turgidly, but that is not possible.

Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers

But everyone was complaining last season about 433, too many defensive Mids etc. Now he's freed Wilf up to play as an inside forward in a 442 and keep him happy you don't like that either.

Yet again we looked slow and Riedewald was one of the worst. He isn't going to cut it - like Meyer they need intensity and speed, not just looking nice and playing one twos with the center back.

Exactly this. To me this is our main problem and why we are such an appalling side to watch. He has the midfield and wingers soooo deep that whenever the mids or full backs get the ball there is absolutely nothing in front of them to pass to, therefore sideways and backwards is the only option. Most of the time the cm's are in line with our cb's, its ridiculous.Whenever the cb's have the ball watch the cm's run back to receive a 2 yard pass from them instead of find space in the middle. We used to play with wingers making runs down the line now they run backwards towards the full backs to again receive a 2 yard pass and then we end up with 2 or 3 players huddled up within 2 feet of each other with nowhere to go. There is literally no movement or attacking intent under this management and there never has been. I hate the fact that a player like Zaha has wasted a good part of his career playing in a system like this. I hope to God Hodgson goes at the end of this season so I can start enjoying it again and hopefully have the excitement of seeing at least a couple of shots a game.

Instead of 'turgid' could we say 'stodgy'?

Well that's screwed the weekend up for us all....again.

Realistically, how long does Parish give Woy? He couldn't motivate an inmate to walk out of an open prison.

No shots on goal, gutless display in the midfield and the usual crab football before lumping it forward to players who can't hold it up.

Only the league to play for and I can see us being sucked into a relegation fight.......without any fight.

I agree he is slow and he will ever be a box to box midfielder but in the right set up (which we obviously don't have) he is the perfect player to receive the ball from the back four and build from the back and if we had a progressive coach with the players we have I think he would be an asset but unfortunately we don't have a progressive coach so he is wasted.

We need a manager who looks at the players and plays to their strengths and then evolves into a balanced approach, unfortunately in my opinion Roy looks at the squad and thinks how can I mould this bunch of players into my way of playing which results in round pegs in square holes

Fully expected for it to be an appalling game today so watched Lord of the Rings instead.

Biggest disappointed for me is Sakho has (of course) picked up an injury after only 45 mins. Now we'll be even less likely to shift him off the books.

Couldn't care less about being out of the cup tbh but a timely reminder of how much investment the wider squad requires.

Rest assured I have found words to describe our displays but I would not use such language on HOL.
Noisy scoffs of disgust and invective language delivered in high-decibel fulmination have often reverberated around 'Chez Willo' and elsewhere.
