I only watched a documentary on this yesterday. And it was about Devon and Cornwall. The guy is a fish exporter. The fishermen aren't interested in that anymore. Many fishermen have decided to bring their own fish to market due to Covid largely. Brexit has sped that up too. The middlemen are facing the squeeze. To some extent also going on in farming. Fishermen have realised they are a lot better off to sell to either the end users or the retail outlets outright - getting better prices for their catch.

You could be right asc, but better tell that bloke in devon and the scottish blokes on the news, before parliament stinks, maybe to late for that!

Fishermen cannot get their catch to the EU market quick enough since brexit, they are not fresh enough.

For europe, the idea of buying from the UK still stands, but the UK is now too uncompetitive to make it worth-while.

There is no reason why they would pay customs and import charges, collect VAT for the UK and face supply delays for whatever reason.

According go the CBI a third of UK exports are lost and it is not 'teething' but integral to brexit.

But the money has to come from somewhere - maybe furlough is where it’s been going rather than Boris spending it on viagra and hair gel.

Too many on the gravy train which spain and many countries have a problem with. Stop listening to the handwringing headline grabbing minority and look at how pissed off the majority are. Tax and spend is ok in my book but how its spent is the issue.

I totally agree with you regarding benefit claimants and have always been peed off with the scroungers. Maybe my comment didn’t come across as I intended.

Thanks Steeleye, this is what i heard, and also lots of exports from uk aren"t worth bringing home because of the charges if refused on delivery for what ever reason, like wrong size , they are being left with the courier, it"s definately not as smoothe as jacob thought!

Terrible news:

“Brexit gives us the competitive advantage not only within the United Kingdom but outside the United Kingdom also.”

Spare a thought for the usual suspects:

Meanwhile, this genuinely is terrible news:

The EU Commission ordered too little, too late, and by political interest. Now they will be hit with supply issues (no, the UK is not affected by this) that will severely hamper their rollout. Supply issues from a vaccine they haven't even approved yet.

Of course, this is always someone else's fault. Never the EU, and certainly not because they didn't order vaccines until November (where they then joined the back of the queue).

Watch them now try to deflect blame onto production-side, when in fact they would not have enough, and in sufficient time, irrespective.

Were we not in such a dire position ourselves, I'd be inclined to help out. Maybe we can pitch in with some.... translation work?

re translation work, I think we need to have a meeting to discuss who will perform the work, what authority will the programme need to approve the translations and most important, the priority and sequence given to each Union language for translation - absolutely no English.

The post EU world will be fine given time.
23 days in and those who are affected are given media space to winge.
For every loser there is a winner.
It's what it looks like and how it works in 5 years time and beyond that matters.
All this in a world pandemic as well.
Perspective needed!

1. How the UK government has implemented the rules needs to be looked basically some of the delays are of our own doing.

2. French customs are playing games plenty of stories about them holding up fish exports due to very minor errors in the paperwork. Boris should tell them to stop playing up or we will retaliate with the same degree for their agriculture produce.

3. Both UK and EU need to get a life a preferred trade scheme with a one off document for the biggest suppliers e.g. supermarkets would pretty much solve all problems and keep to the rules.

4. Worldwide shortage of cargo containers continues and is making things worse it's in the interest of UK and EU to smooth this process out so those containers can be emptied and re-used.

Symptomatic of a typical inflexible business that’s stuck in its ways. Businesses likely to be affected by Brexit have had several years to come up with a revised business model that reflects the likely outcome of the negotiations. Those who will fail are those who thought, “let’s just carry on doing the same thing we always have and hope it works in our favour”.

Those who succeed will be the ones who see where the market can reap them benefits.

This quote is from a bitter businessman that has failed to plan for the future and is now trying to blame it on anything other than his own incompetence.

I know loads of small business Directors who are excited about Brexit and have expansion plans based around the collapse of the old guard.
