Looking at Dover last week with the half-empty lorry parks I would prefer the evidence of my eyes.

Good news for our Irish contributors:-

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission on Friday gave the green light to Ireland's 989-million-euro ($1.2 billion) plan to recover from the pandemic and transform the economy to become greener and more digitalised in coming years.

Ireland will receive grants from the 800-billion-euro European Union recovery fund approved by the 27 member states to help their economies rebound from the pandemic.

I saw it on the news ad nauseum, my initial thought was that it's not much. We announced a few billion overspend on a hospital days before, so it can go towards that I guess.

1 billion is roughly what the free meals cost during the pandemic. Puts it into perspective really. Greener generally includes higher taxes so probably pay for some sort of congestion charge somewhere.

What really 'puts it into perspective' is that the ROI has a population of 5 million, whereas the UK has a population of 68 million, so that €1 billion is in fact equivalent to nearly €14 billion in real terms when compared to the relative size of the UK.

As I thought.

Is it as at 2020 or 2021 ?

Your link is at 2020 and your post at 2021.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Debt is relative but being the largest trading bloc in the world, the EU is in a much better place to service any debt it has. Still, it's irrelevant to the original posting about how Ireland is being helped by the EU covid recovery fund, which is helping every EU country to open up their economies bringing in revenue.

Really? I think that's the kind of thing people type up and actually believe.

When the plug is pulled all the same people will be left struggling in the slipstream....and it won't be the bankers who 'print' the money. All that will differ between us is the size of that debt slipstream.

You don't even live in Britain. I don't care what you think about Brexit.
