No other country has forced 25,000 HGV drivers to leave their country and go back to another country, only the UK has done that and that is primarily caused by 'brexit'. That's an extra 25,000 more for EU countries, in effect making it a 50,000 deficit. Additionally, with freedom of movement across the 27 nation bloc, resources can and will move where they are needed most. None of the EU 27 have massive queues at gas stations, none have supermarkets and retailers with empty shelves, none are having to issue 'visas' to get drivers and none has had to stoop so low in desperation as to call the army i. To keep their countries going.

Nice try but epic fail.

Brexit happened, you lost, get over it!!!

So how do you explain us having the biggest shortage of any European country?

Why have the government rushed to approve new visas if it's nothing to do with Brexit?

To deny Brexit is a factor in this doesn't seem at all logical to me - of course there are a myriad of other factors, of which Covid is a huge one, but it's very obvious that Brexit is too.

Of course Brexit is PART of the problem, along with Covid, s***e wages for truckers and even s***er working conditions for those truckers....who would want to do the job under the terms they have to deal with, lack of parking, only being allowed to deliver at crap times of the day/night and the mountains of paperwork, all for a rubbish pay packet..?

I agree - my point was that most people are unwilling to concede even that.

I’m not denying it as a factor, although I don’t remember anyone previously mentioning it as a likely outcome, just pointing out that there is a similar shortage in countries not affected by Brexit.

Yes, most sensible posters would agree brexit is either the main problem or part of the problem. If it is just part of the problem, then so far, it has been a failure! In years to come, it might turn in to a positive, or maybe an even bigger failure! As for other countries needing lorry drivers, that is just in a perfect scenario, they don"t have food shortages or fuel stations empty like us. We really are the ass end of europe, and its all our own doing! As a Spanish bloke said to me in Croydon, "its laughable, they voted for this though-now they have fcuked themselves!" "Fcuked themselves indeed," I replied.

There isn't a 'similar' shortage at all. Yes there's a shortage but it's no where near what the UK is experiencing. The UK has a population of 68 million and a HGV driver shortage of 100,000, the EU 27 420 million, that's more than 6 times the population but there isn't a shortage of more than 600,000 drivers in the EU 27. It's actually less than 400,000, that's a factor of 50% less. That difference is due to 'brexit' as the only other differentiating factor and that is a massive difference indeed.

Boris was trying to get our christmas turkeys on the qt from Brasil, whats wrong with norfolk?

Countries like Germany are starting off at a much, much higher bar with regards to logistics infrastructure compared to the UK, so any impact on Germany will be proportionally much greater on the UK. You seem to be desperate to point to other countries to justify the disaster in the UK. This i atypical 'brexiteer' trait when they realise their 'dream' has totally collapsed, point fingers at others. Again, epic fail.

The epic fail here is yours for assuming I am/was a Brexit voter which for the record isn’t correct.
Desperation? Not at all; just a willingness to explore other possibilities than those which fit my preconceptions.
