Apparently we now have the second worst defensive record in the league this season and have failed to muster a single shot in 5 games.
We should still be capable of getting another 4 wins and a few draws to keep us up, especially with Zaha back.
However,if Hodgson's strength is seen as defensive organisation, which seems to have deserted him, and we are still getting hamnered with 10 of our players sitting in our half, it seems reasonable to question his methods which leave us vulnerable in defence and toothless in attack.
And yes, I know the players also have to take some responsibility and that some of them are getting on.

100%. Many City are on a different planet to us. Doesnt mean we cannot at least pretend that we are a premier league team ourselves and do the basics like pass the ball to each other. Like you say, ground hog day every week. Same players, same performances. The apathy sweeping through this club is awful.

It all stems from an exceedingly dull and arrogant manager.
From a personal perspective I can happily recall those school teachers and workplace supervisors who really made the study / day interesting and enjoyable, and got the best out of the students / employees.
That vibe doesn't come across with Hodgson, it's the same gruel day in day out, and it shows in the performances. Just one look at him in the dugout, staring at the grass in front of him while Ray barks out instructions should tell us all we need to know.

Couldn't agree more,l have been there as long, and the drive and fight just doesn't happen with the team selections,it is so disheartening watching a team that really is just going through the motions, and can't wait to get back on the coach home,it is pretty sad football, what's even sadder is that people where quoting that this is the strongest squad we have had, half of them will be drawing there pension before long !!!

Last night's game was VERY depressing viewing for reasons well covered on this thread. It was against a large squad of superstars though.
We now have a weeks rest and then start a run of seven games where we should be able to compete strongly.

In view of the opposition, I will be expecting/hoping/preying that our next game will show us near to our best.... we can be very good (Oh yes we can).

Man City game was evidently one way traffic with only positive from the game for Palace being the final whistle. Gulf of class on display with Palace rarely unable to even join up four passes.

Chance then to regroup during FA Cup break and ensure that next match vs West Ham produces an altogether transformative display on the pitch by The Eagles with a refreshed team hungry for victory.

The players put everything they had into the Arsenal game, there was nothing left in the tank. City are a great team but had an extra days rest, are able to rotate players and are bang in form with 8 straight wins. We are unable to play 2 tough games so close to each other, god forbid if we ever qualified for Europe.

This is a potential issue. We know the managers likely going in the summer. We know the squads too old. Unless the next manager is decided, in the club and running an early rule over the entire place(incl. U18 and U23), from top to bottom, we have a problem brewing as we can’t really buy in January with the current manager. But if we don’t we’ve got a worrying summer rebuild coming up and may not stay in this league. There are Players out of contract etc etc.

I have a nasty suspicion that we’ll be cheap and the next manager will be Freedman. I sincerely hope I’m wrong, can’t stand the bloke so I really hope something is happening behind the scenes.

Don’t get me wrong I expected to lose to Man City but it’s the flat, depressing nature of this loss that gets me. There was no passion. Whether you’re a fan of some of Wilfs antics or not, the bloke loves football, has passion, wants to win and gets pissed off with poor passing around him. To make the likes of him and Eze want to stay in the summer, there has to be a bloody good story to tell them

One of our best performing players this season, Schlupp, is out for probably the rest of the season. Given the fact we have also allowed Meyer to go this leaves us short in midfield and particularly in forward minded midfielders.

I would hope that this encourages the owners to put their hands in their pockets and buy at least one quality player this window, although we all know how unlikely that is.

Please do not take this personally but two of them were against WBA who had ten men?,the facts are that he is finished as a striker he can't run, read the game, pass the ball very well, run with the ball, work defenders when he does not have the ball, create spaces for other to run in to and very frequently heads the ball directly to the opposition. He spends most his time standing around waiting for the ball to come to him, he had six opportunities in his last match and could not convert one of the them, biggest waste of money our payroll. he would struggle to get a start in any lower league team mainly because he does not work hard enough or use his big frame to make a nuisance of himself!

We need a younger manager and a more youthful squad. We have, what is it, 19 squad players out of contract at the end of the season? In an ideal world we should let around half of them go but, assuming we stay up, I imagine most of them will be offered new terms simply because there is no way they the club will be able to replace so many. We have stagnated for so long that I fear it will now take a relegation before this situation can be rectified.

Even with a "full tank on board" I turned off at half time. I couldn't stand to watch a further 45 minutes of defence.

Serious question: how worse would the score have been if we didnt have 1 bank of 10 for defence, and actually tried to go at them?

We will never go down with Roy at the helm but along that journey we will have highs and lows with the latter a combination of embarrassment and the white flag which, last night was a prime example. He is talking about not wanting to give up so be prepared for more of the same next season. This is the reality and another chapter in the roller coaster of being a Palace fan.
