I know we were awful against City but we do seem to be unlucky to have been on the end of some stunning strikes resulting in goals against us this season. The two wonder strikes against City a couple against Liverpool and the Haller wonder overhead kick against the spammers.I know we don’t help ourselves by giving away cheap corners and free kicks just outside of the penalties area but watching other games a lot of those end up in row Z.

I was just thinking about this the other day when I saw a 'Goals of the Year' highlight reel, or some such thing.

The ones I remember are Dele Ali's overhead flick and volley and, Giroud's improvised crab kick.

Also, I'm sure Son has scored a decent goal against us, as he has against most teams.

We give players too much time and there are plenty of good players out there. Townsend against Man City was a volley, so no time to close him down. Ambrose wasn't closed down by Man U who hadn't done their homework on him.
But think about how teams stop us yet score long range goals and you can come to your own conclusion that we don't press enough. We lack the fitness, pace and physicality to press.
Then look at all of the good teams and you'll find they press. It's the modern tactic that we don't use. It explains why we are always throwing ourselves around to block a shot. We don't press, and we react very badly when we are pressed. Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City all pressed us relentlessly and look at the results.
Another high pressing side is Leeds, they lack the players and the squad but by God Bielsa is getting the most out of them.

Wise words. But they have never been used to describe our style of play.

Anyone still remember the Fulham game in our first season back up? We took an early lead and then Fulham scored two absolute belters which completely turned the game around and they ran out 4-1 winners.

There was one mad one from the wing. Can't remember who scored it but it was from such a tight angle, and from my memory, closer to the sideline than the area. I couldn't believe it but it was typical us.

Perhaps unsurprisngly Fulham TV have kept a video of the goals from that game if you can stand to live through it again.

Its amusing when the commentator says something like:

That’s his first goal in 10 years

That’s his first hatrick ever

This player has not assisted a goal in his whole career until now

John Stones as an example scoring two goals in a match for first time ever!

Or any other statement where we have allowed a player to break his embarrassing duck..

We are a caring club!!
