The double standards are so wide you could drive a truck full of illegals through it. They have always been the same, 'it's ok when they do it'. It's never been about ethics or whether this policy was good or bad.....that's for the activists and/or low IQ. It's always been about power and using whatever means available to have it. The WHO has admitted...without any acknowledgement to how serious this is.....that they were wrong to rule out the Wuhan lab leak theory. I know we live in a world where no one seems to give much of a feck about anything anymore (unless it directly affects them) I stress that this action is and was extremely serious. Not only does it validate Trump's distrust of the neutrality of the WHO at the time (for which the usual suspects criticised him) but it also highlights the power the unelected social media giants were allowed to exert....with no challenge....to censor and ban people who actually proposed a theory that not only made sense but had no evidence against it. This is very murky and questions need to be asked upon the back door financial and career interests of people who immediately ridiculed the 'Wuhan lab' theory which practically all mainstream western media outlets were worryingly willing to back. There should also be investigation into those who published both in the Lancet....in fact this has already been done and it doesn't look good with obvious conflicts of interest with funding and careers. However, this needs to be done on an official and state level.....The Lancet itself has adjusted its statement to reflect the possible conflicts of interests that were initially denied by those behind the signatures on the published letter. Recently, and I suppose as you would expect these same contributors have recently doubled down.....which even if conflicts of interest are ignored is a serious commentary upon their judgement at that early stage of the virus. This is highly serious. People are expected to believe scientists and their recommendations are used both by politicians and the media as justifications for their actions.

When this theory was first floated, no-one "ruled it out". What was said was it seemed unlikely, but that the origins were unknown and in the middle of a surging pandemic we needed to concentrate on everyone working together, rather than starting a diversionary blame game. What was argued then is that the time to do that was later, when a cool and clear analysis could be made. Which is exactly what is happening. It won't be easy, as China is not going to be open and co-operative. I have little doubt that mistakes will have been made, and corruption revealed. When people are involved, totally eradicating both is an impossibility, especially at time of crisis. Lessons though can be learned which will help the next time. And we know, in today's world, there will be a next time.

That's not admitting anything, either. It's saying much the same as I did in my response. They are using the passage of time to offer a more reflective view and have concluded that their previous one might have been preceptive. That's not admitting a mistake. It's simply a wise approach which acknowledges that as more becomes known, views can change. Only those who think they already know everything, and have nothing to learn from anyone, don't take a similar approach. I can think of one recent candidate who would wear that cap very well.
