Stimulus packages are the policy of governments of all shades. It isn't exclusively a weapon of the left. As someone who believes in balanced budgets and the need to live within your means, I would normally oppose excessive spending. I personally have never borrowed for anything, other than for a mortgage on my home and the first business I owned, which was massively secured by property. My father never owed anyone a penny and paid every bill the day it arrived. That though doesn't apply in times of emergency. Wars are emergences, which we must either win, or perish. The pandemic can be regarded in that way. We must defeat it. So must the USA. So if the Biden administration sees this huge stimulus as ultimately bringing a more sustainable outcome than allowing a depression to occur, then I can sympathise with them. I hope they are proved right, even if I have some reservations.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Ted Cruise says that if the Republicans gain a 2022 majority in the house that Biden will be impeached. Most modern impeachments are purely divisive and pointless politics. It's like Keir Starmer being the judge and jury over Boris. Impeachment was written into the constitution to prevent high crimes such as treason, the early Americans were scared that the British would put a puppet in the job. Apart from Nixon both the Clinton and Trump attempted impeachments were long on political revenge and short on actual high crimes. I hope that the republicans don't impeach Biden this merry go round most stop for the sake of the political process.

So much of politics now seems to be gridlock with a bit of saber rattling. The surface reading of the Biden presidency so far is that for one reason or another not much of anything has been achieved. If that remains the case I fully expect the republicans to regain the house and senate. Whether that would be a good or bad thing who knows, as US politics has become so ludicrous and divided that there's little sense across the board. Anyone with a considered view is drowned out by a good four or five without one.

Anyone being sensible would agree of course....it's a politically nuclear reaction that's now largely being abused. However, US politics hasn't been sensible for some time.

Dynasty the series may have ended in the nineties....but in practice it just reverted to the political houses.
