Sometimes a player takes time to develop. Harry Kane went on loan about half a dozen times and only really broke through at Spurs aged 22, so their is still time for some.

Both Kirby and Street started for their respective clubs yesterday.
Kirby was substituted at HALF TIME in his game for Tranmere in League 2
Street was substituted after 73 mins (the first of 3 subs Torquay made in their clash against bottom of the table Barnet in the National League.
Banks started on the bench for Dunfermline and came on after 68 mins in their 1-0 defeat at runaway leaders Hearts.
It will be interesting to see how these three fare during the rest of the season. I'll try and keep a look out. Why? Well a lot of people on this site are always moaning about the lack of game time the youngsters get in the first team. These three are among the better U23 squad players. If they can't hack it in the leagues they've been loaned out to, then they're clearly either not ready or not good enough yet.

Lumeka has actually done well since leaving. Was one of the stars of the Portuguese second tier last season which earned him his move to Troyes and he scored a brace on his debut. Kirby should be playing at a higher level by now and I feel like part of the problem is the lack of opportunities he's been given in the past 4 years.

I get you point had we played Lumeka would his development have been smoother and better, well probably, but would we have been in the premier league? That's where we need a balance

Fair play to Lumeka I wish him well but would you be excited by a player who had done well in the Portuguese second division if we were to sign him now? It looks like as sub for Troyes in the main but been injured recently. Fair enough young lad getting used to new team and country so might be the manager trying to ease him in , then he got injured [Link] Wonder if the Troyes forum were all up in arms about the new signing that scores two on his debut after coming on as sub and probably wont’ start another came for six months but I digress.
Looked up Blackpool forum today and they seem disappointed that didn't get Kirby back [Link] maybe covid has had a bit of an effect and smaller clubs and not going to take the punt of bringing someone in on higher wages, I don’t know really. Kirby turns 21 today according to Wikipedia so maybe he has time but he needs to show something soon. Also good to see that they seem obsessed with ex players mentioning Sullay.
If you are Mitchell you will have learnt more from playing Man City then you would in a season loan in league 1 or 2 , playing alongside experienced players and being punished for you mistakes learning that you might have closed down the run for De Bruyne but he can hit a sweet ball in with the outside of his foot, but Mitchell was already at a high standard when he got his chance.
That’s the bigger point, if Lumeka or Kirby came available today there would not be a string of championship clubs looking to sign them up for their first team that should tell you their current ability.
A couple more wins and we might see less pressure on results then it would be nice at that point to see Reidwald starting regularly and chances for Pierick, Woods and others.

Good point. If you are a lower league club and looking for a loan player you are hoping for that unpolished diamond e.g. Beckham going to Preston.

I suspect that most of our under 23 squad could do a job in Div 1 or 2 but that is not the point. Those clubs can always find someone to do a job but a loan from the PL should bring a sprinkle of stardust.

My Charlton mate told me that have had some terrific loans from Chelsea and Arsenal who have gone onto better things if not in the PL then the Championship.

Pardew signed Alex Song, then a teenager, for Charlton on loan from Arsenal.
Scott Sinclair was on loan to Charlton before he signed for us and I believe Carlton Cole was on loan from Chelsea.

I was thinking more recently like the last 2/3 seasons. I don't remember names but they were players that Charlton wanted back on loan or to sign but that didn't happen as they went on to better things.

Pierrick gone to Kilmarnock on loan. At least he's gone to a Scottish Prem team. Will be interesting to see how he fares especially if he gets to play against Rangers and/or Celtic.

Kilmarnock are managed by none other than Alex Dyer. One of those players -- Bruce Dyer happened to be another -- who we signed because they played well against us. Hope he's a better manager than he was a player. Pierrick has something and playing senior at this level, if he can cut it, will be great for him.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Definitely sounds like we missed a trick with Kwadwo Baah, releasing him in 2017. Now he's about to join Man City from Rochdale.

Glad for the lad, hope he does well but it's a big step from (18th in) League 1 Rochdale to the Champions League. Lets see if he ever plays for the first team.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
