Best we agree to disagree Glazier.
I am not posting "without knowing what I am talking about" either.

Well, ok but is it ok?

Should we just accept a 30% pay cut?

I mean, to be fair, we've been remarkably restrained over that time until we've finally had enough. Hardly the tale of rabid militancy, Dolph.

Public sector awards, and a lot of other current woes could easily be paid out of the grotesque private utility profits declared in the last couple of days.

I think that a lot of people in the private sector have also had real time pay cuts over time - should they accept it?
Do they get the same benefits as the public sector - on the whole they do not?
Are their wages higher than the public sector - when you take the real big earners out of it - it varies.
Do we need teachers, nurses and other clinical staff, police firefighters and the like - of course we do!
Should they be paid a fair wage - everyone should - does it happen in the real world - invariably not.
Teachers - taking them as the example are being paid - taking into account pensions - 23.68% more than they are telling the general public when they talk about striking - is that fair - no.
Life is not fair sadly and in all sorts of ways

I'll tell you what - stop wanting to take money from everything private to pay for everything public Steeleye and sort out the public sector, which is bloated beyond belief and is used as a means to earn money by too many people who do not give a f*** about the job they do or the people that pay them.
Many do their jobs well and make a difference but too many don't - get rid of them, cut the staffing at the top by 20% and have all the pay rises you want.
I can't get a policeman to take any notice, a doctor to see me, a passport, a driving license - the list goes on!
When the public sector en-masse does what it is meant to do then I will run with it.

The energy sector and water would be the first stop for me in returning them to the public and actually the UK.

Shed no tears for them wave them bye bye.

its probably like being a Stand up comedian who is forbidden from insulting anybody in the audience, nor insulting the sacred cows of Religion & Lefty Politics.

like a Drill Sargeant who is forbidden from pushing the kids nor punishing them.

like a game show host but without the big money and with the added risk of getting stabbed.

like a prison officer at Belmarsh but not allowed to put a nutter into an armlock.

like an unpopular football referee but with tons more paperwork & hours to work.

if you have all the ethical flexibility of a Mercenary and the slipperiness of a Diplomat.....you may last more than 5 minutes as a teacher.

I wouldn't be against that - subject to cost, which might be prohibitive.
However, I am not sure that they would be run any better or that they would cost the end users less either.

Ricky Gervais and Dave Chapelle are probably the two biggest comedians in the world at the moment, by the way.

Too big to fail. Like J.K.Rowling.

Sorry your point seems conflicting to me - you seem to be arguing that these services are not functioning properly, but also are outraged at the idea of funding them properly.

I think it's really hard to make the case that it's the public, not private, sector which is full of people purely out to make as much money as they can for as little work as possible (as if that's a bad thing!)

Absolutely no one is becoming a teacher or a nurse because they see it as an easy way to get rich or even an easy way to make a living.
