Good luck indeed, as the union rep said on LBC just now, if other workers want 50k a year, organise and join a union!Perhaps pay parity with those in the square mile-even though they don"t carry the responsibility of hundreds of peoples lives on each train!

What about the people whose unions don't have the same clout or whose employers can't afford to pay them £1000 a week? They're the ones paying extra for fares they can't afford.
Some are more equal than others.

You don"t worry about the city square mile bankers and their bonus"s at Christmas on top of huge wages all year? But prefer to try and drag the train drivers down to the level of workers using food banks perhaps? We have to drag people up to the bankers wages, rather than cut the most successful union and it"s workers down to poverty zero hour CONservative level Teddy!

Come on CP. My wife works with a lady whose husband is a tube driver. His wages are ridiculously high, he also has several shifts a month where he reports for work, Just in case! After a few hours he goes home in full pay.
Before you use the responsibility for safety excuse, 2 years ago my son worked at a theme park, responsible for the safety of people on the rides. He was paid £7.50 an hour.
No way will train drivers ever be dragged down. I hate these Unions that do nothing but think of striking for political purposes. My dad ran a shop in the Seventies, basically went broke because of all the strikes, yep really are for the working peo0le aren’t they!

If someone is working for a private company the wage level has to relate to revenue.

If someone is working as a civil servant or in other words being paid by the taxpayer, then the wage should reflect the value and responsibility level of the job.....but it still can't be divorced from governmental revenue.

Though I recognise that governments today use MMT and so rely on the never never.

But you would think that at that base level wages are not that complicated. At least to a reasonable person.

Would that be a Union rep on over £100k and doesn’t lose money when his Union goes on strike?

Of course the BOEs performance is lamentable and they are probably in control and responsible for the current inflation situation.

But rail workers are over=paid and most of the public regard their demands, and them, as a pain in the a***e.

It offends natural justice to give in to their demands.

It is ridiculous to suggest a train driver could be dragged into using a food bank, they earn fantastic money, what do they actually do except depress a lever occasionally?

The rest of them earning 44K plus they are hardly the brightest and need clearing out.

As a 'leftie' I am not going to be bullied by freeloaders like this either.

Unions have been necessary where would working people be, but this is taking the p*ss.

Of course society is badly in need of re-balancing away from a privileged few, but this is only driving the public away from the labour movement.

Train drivers earn a small fortune

imagine being unsackable, uneducated, and paid a ton of money. For doing a job that requires all the talent and self-discipline of a lolly-pop man.

and regarding recruitment , getting a job there ?

Ridiculously high? If he is on £1000 a week , which I doubt, that"s not ridiculous, and if he was that's with lots of hours over 7 days probably, again, you seek to bad mouth working class people who are earning a decent wage, rather than moan about Eton boys in the city earning more than that in a day, no overtime and sitting in a comfy office! Alas, jealousy is a terrible thing, lets all get down to the CONservatives favoured working method, the zero hour contract, no holiday pay, no sick pay, and queue in a line at the end of the day to see if your line manager has you in for a shift tomorrow, or if he tells you to wait by your phone for a call that maybe will or maybe won"t happen at 5 am!

Good plan. Let's pay everyone a million a year and give them a free house and a two day working week - mind you cabbies will still be bleating about Uber drivers getting the same.

I have no time for the Eton elite but I also have no time for the money grabbing Unions who hold every day folk to ransom. CP I am very much working class, born and bred in Thornton Heath whose parents had very little money.
Who am I jealous of? Do you not read my posts before you go on a rant? The last part of your post describes my own son.
Think you need to take a chill pill

Just checked the tube driver is on approximately £70k pa very good shift roster lots of rest days. Not bad life really
