Townsend’s performance was indefensible having given the ball away 20 plus times yet again. Ayew looked more assured on the ball when he came on and he retains possession far better than Townsend. To say he only looked better because West Ham were no longer trying is unfair on Ayew.

I agree Ayew looked far more assured on the ball and for that he deserves credit but he came on at a particular stage of the game as I have highlighted.

I never implied that W.Ham were not trying, I believe that in their situation, 3-1 to the good, they never needed to chase the game and were content to contain us and see the game out.

This 'Thread' is about Townsend, and he was very disappointing.

Townsend has lost all of his pace - which is the basic skill a winger needs. He also has very little strength and can't tackle so his constant tracking back is pointless. He should stay in attack and not track back so much - offering us an out ball out wide at the very least. However, due to his deficiencies, he should not be starting every game. Or any games really in the Premier League.
When he tackles a player, I wonder if they think they've just been touched by candy floss? He's that strong in the tackle.
I've always liked Townsend and it's actually a shame to see him want to move quickly, but quite clearly not being able to. Perhaps League One would suit. He's really at the Scott Sinclair or Routeledge stage these days, although younger.

Simple solution, just sell him off. He has about one good game a season, the rest just a passenger. As many have said earlier, lost any pace he had, but everytime he was challenged or 50/50 you knew he would end up in a heap on the floor.
I would rather see PVA in his place at least he has an idea about going forward and rumoured that he can tackle, but isnt the long term solution.

Well at least he has beaten someone this year

Apparently the new man at Chelsea, Tuchel, who took his first training session yesterday afternoon was heard repeatedly shouting 'acceleration' as an indicator of what he expects from his players.

Unfortunately, it's not just Andros who's slow to react. That dreadful BT commentator said of Benteke last night something like 'he should be running into the box - he was just strolling'.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

he was never the fastest but his current form and lack of confidence is a real concern.
Can't beat his man so doesn't even bother - defenders seem to bully him - and his inability to hold onto the ball and get even a half decent cross off is inexcusable. I remember the young Leicester left back completely dominating him a few weeks back and thought that would be the catalyst for change but clearly not.

Ayew, Zaha or even Eze on the right is a must or 3 centre mids with may Macca on the right of them as he has done before.

Andros' from has been in decline for some time so the lack of any transfer activity over the last 18 months has been inexcusable. Even now the only option being considered is Gray from Leicester who looked great a few years ago but has barely played since.

townsend should not be starting, bench at best.
very insipid this season.
As many have already stated, just gives the ball away continually.

I like Townsend , yes he has lost pace and maybe now be playing from the bench . But if Newcastle or West Brom come in with a good offer I would let him go . I am sorry to say
