If there is any truth in that Romero rumour I would be very pleased. Always thought he was massively underrated and a great keeper, would be no1 for me by a stretch.

Guaita is a great shot stopper, but does not command his area and looks weak coming for crosses. I'm hesitant to criticise him too much but by the same token do not think he is a superman I get the impression others think he is.

Not seen enough of Butland to comment on his suitability to be no1 or replace Guaita in starting XI.

We are very much birds on the same twig apropos Guaita.

I would add that his kicking is not the best and I cannot recall the last time I saw him actually come and catch a cross. He is very much a 'Line' goalkeeper as is Rui Patricio of Wolves.

Guaita has had a bit of a dip in form overall

#2 in the league last season for goals prevented
20th and last this season, although some of that skewed by recent heavy losses

Point is he's not been as good as 19/20. But is he good enough to stay as #1? I'd say so for now.

Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons.

He's nowhere near our player of the year.

Let's face it, there isn't much competition this year.

The right post at the holmesdale end emerged as a contender on Tuesday. Still lost though.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Let him go - I would be happy with Butland and I suspect that was the plan all along.
If a new Manager came in now he would likely start Butland

IIRC Butland never covered himself in glory in Stoke's relegation season and has a showreel of errors from last year that led to him falling out of favour at Stoke.

He's a good signing, and a change of scenery and coach may bring about a recovery, but I wouldn't want hang my hat on it.

I also think questions would have been asked about VG if he'd let Traore's goal in.

Last season some very clumsy mistakes (Sheff Utd home) were papered over by a few world class saves (Arsenal home). This season his form has been abysmal and he has been directly responsible for at least half a dozen goals. As mentioned elsewhere, stats show he is the worst performing GK in the league.

No great loss if he does decide to go back to Spain. Butland is a quality keeper and just needs to get his confidence back. Hopefully we can bring in about keeper to provide competition. Henessey and Henderson need to get in the bin.

Guaita is a top 10 keeper in this league. There are teams above us who would love to have him.

We have 99 problems and VG is not one of them.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

Agree with this. Gordon Banks would struggle with that bunch of Doris’s in front of him.
Guaita is a top keeper but his confidence is probably low given the performances all around him, the total refusal to change tactics and the same old substitution policy - that seeks to accept a defeat and tries to unsuccessfully ensure we don’t concede more.
I mean, is it his fault that our defenders scuff clearances, we are unable to retain possession, clear the box and constantly give the ball away? That we play a CM as a CB. In one game we did 2 foul throws. 2! In my opinion 1 is unforgivable in the professional game.

Daily Mail - reporting today that a deal is in place for Guaita to return to Spain in the summer!
