There wasn't the money in the game back then to justify moving away from your area, so it's unfair to suggest Stanley Matthews had more loyalty than anyone of the modern era. Paul Merson left Arsenal to join a relegated Middlesbrough and as a result was paid more than Dennis Bergkamp. Who's to say a 50 year old Matthews wouldn't have taken the final pay day in China had it been an option back then.
