Our injury list didn't help, I would like to see how he gets on playing with MacArthur wilf and schlupp in the side. We didn't deserve anything from the game, but having said that we contributed massively to their two goals

He didn't get off to the best start in the game but I thought he did ok as it went on considering we barely offered him any support. He showed a few glimpses of nice touches and link up play which is promising. Tbh I'll hold judgement on him this season though as the world's best would struggle up top with our current lineup. I just hope his confidence isn't shot to pieces by the time we can strengthen in the summer. We have been a bit of a strikers graveyard in recent years. Edited by samprior (09 Feb 2021 2.19pm)

There was one occasion when he made a run wide left when he took off and showed he is actually quick. To be honest though, he had zero service and there was generally 30-40 yards between him and our midfield when Leeds had the ball as we had to play so deep due to the complete lack of pace in the middle. As such he was made to look a bit aimless just running between their defenders as they played keep ball. To write him off when he didn't have one chance on goal is mad. He might be no good, but I thought he actually looked like a younger Bentenke (which would be no bad thing if we got the Villa era Bentenke).

Mateta's first game for us and first game in the PL. I'm amazed how people are so astute as to be able to judge his abilities and qualities already. He played in a team that put in a pretty poor performance overall. I'd want to see how he performs over the rest of the season before stating a view. I expect it will take him a bit of time to adjust to the speed and style of the PL. Give the lad a chance.

Obviously it's very early days but I noticed his touch let him down on about four occasions in the first half hour or a Leeds defender very easily got foot in and nicked it off him. Perhaps he wasn't helped by the pitch. I understand that Timo Werner has commented about the strength and physicality of Premier League defenders

Early ring rustiness is to be expected, and he is still learning how to fit into the side so he was not going to set the world on fire - has a touch of the Swindlehursts about him for me.

Cascarino and Swindlehurst were both very similar lol Very hard for defenders to judge which way their legs were going.
