It's amazing how many fans put wanted us to put all our eggs in one basket with him before seeing him play.

There's been plenty of comments about how we can get rid of Batshuayi and Benteke now we've got Mateta.

The problem with just saying, let's get rid of all our players and bring in better ones is that the only thing you can be sure of is that it will be very expensive with no guarantee of success.

Wasn't the best performance but he was hung out to dry a bit. Hopefully, he gets some more game time off the bench over our upcoming run. Then we'll see if he can become a premiership striker. Looking forward to seeing him again

Precisely, the reason we struggle as we do is mostly because three to four of our players are really not up to it against teams with much less problems, such being the case results in players around Mateta failing in their jobs to service him.

I feel sorry for Mateta, as he is expected to be the messiah, in footballing terms, it would seem.
Palace , just do not play to a traditional striker. Look at Bamford, and the way Leeds , creat havoc around him, yet get the balls to him every time he is in striking distance.
Many have said it more than enough times here, our midfield, lacks creativity , and pace to make for sustained pressure on opponents .
The fact is Mateta, and all of our strikers, will be far to busy supporting the mid-field to ever get into good striking positions, other than in the few games we dominate the ball in, The Leeds game only showed how poor our mid field is at supporting any sort of concerted effort to get a striker receiving good ball in the oppositions penalty area.

No I don't. I find such attempts at humour both tired and pathetic. Can't you think of something more original?

Indeed, you don't just jettison a load of players and hope the new ones will be better. Look how long it's taking Chelsea's newbies to settle into the PL. Mateta needs time - time to adjust to the PL and to forge an understanding with his teammates.

Until we’re playing regularly with a number 10 the same problem and gap is there. It’s been the case for years. Eze is hopefully an answer but either side of the pitch has to be productive and not a vulnerable target.

Mateta looks slow, gangly, low work rate, and unable to do anything other than wait for a brilliant cross. How is that any different than Benteke or Sorloth?

Really, Mateta looks like the the stupidest signing we've had in recent years, which is really saying something.

sums him up very well based on his performance at Leeds albeit in a very poor team effort all over!

I don’t think he should be judged after that game.

Needs a few games before we can really see what he's like. We've given Benteke enough chances, after all.

We are not going to get the best out of any of the forwards until the manager goes, and we change our style of play. Our forwards live off scraps, or have to fend for themselves.

I see him more as the new Dave Swindlehurst, hopefully not the new Trevor Aylott.
