It's amazing how many fans put wanted us to put all our eggs in one basket with him before seeing him play. There's been plenty of comments about how we can get rid of Batshuayi and Benteke now we've got Mateta. The problem with just saying, let's get rid of all our players and bring in better ones is that the only thing you can be sure of is that it will be very expensive with no guarantee of success. Wasn't the best performance but he was hung out to dry a bit. Hopefully, he gets some more game time off the bench over our upcoming run. Then we'll see if he can become a premiership striker. Looking forward to seeing him again

I feel sorry for Mateta, as he is expected to be the messiah, in footballing terms, it would seem.

Until we’re playing regularly with a number 10 the same problem and gap is there. It’s been the case for years. Eze is hopefully an answer but either side of the pitch has to be productive and not a vulnerable target.

Mateta looks slow, gangly, low work rate, and unable to do anything other than wait for a brilliant cross. How is that any different than Benteke or Sorloth? Really, Mateta looks like the the stupidest signing we've had in recent years, which is really saying something. sums him up very well based on his performance at Leeds albeit in a very poor team effort all over!

I don’t think he should be judged after that game. Edited by EddieMac (10 Feb 2021 6.17pm)

We are not going to get the best out of any of the forwards until the manager goes, and we change our style of play. Our forwards live off scraps, or have to fend for themselves.

The new Tommy Langley. I see him more as the new Dave Swindlehurst, hopefully not the new Trevor Aylott.
