It's amazing how many fans put wanted us to put all our eggs in one basket with him before seeing him play.

There's been plenty of comments about how we can get rid of Batshuayi and Benteke now we've got Mateta.

The problem with just saying, let's get rid of all our players and bring in better ones is that the only thing you can be sure of is that it will be very expensive with no guarantee of success.

Wasn't the best performance but he was hung out to dry a bit. Hopefully, he gets some more game time off the bench over our upcoming run. Then we'll see if he can become a premiership striker. Looking forward to seeing him again

As I remember there was plenty of caution. I had never even heard of him and wondered whether we would actually ever see him play. Well, I've been proved wrong on that. He has played. Hes probably wondering WTF team has he joined.

If he plays against Burnley he will be up against two capable centre-backs in Mee and Tarkowski so he could well find it difficult.

As will the rest of our rather aged squad.

Probably the reason for their problems.

I actually thought he looked ok. For a big lad he showed some nice touches and technique. Coming on in a game we had lost control of was not ideal. The whole team was struggling against a high pressing energetic and confident leeds ... so hard to judge him really.

Wasn’t AJ abysmal when he first started for us ... I’m hopeful JP will shine soon.

he seems to have a decent touch, you can not judge him on the leeds game.

he is young & raw and can only improve.

i would be more than happy to see him, wilf & bats we our main 3 striikers for the start of next season.

‘All our eggs in one basket?’
It’s an extra forward on loan, when we didn’t see/can’t afford anyone else.
We’ve added him to our strikers without moving anyone on. So ‘we’ve added to our basket’
It’s an option hat we now have that will cost us in wages and if he turns out to be great , we can buy at an agreed price.
Who else was available on an 18 month loan in a ‘current’ decent goal scoring spell in a decent league , for a poor club, with I’m guessing (due to league position), few chances.
We haven’t got rid of Benteke or backed Batshui.
If he’s absolute toilet scores 3 goals in 50 games (benteke), walks about , doesn’t challenge for headers and has no comprehension of the offside rule (batshui), or is never fit to play (Wickham) , he will be the same as what we have.
I didn’t mind him, considering how poor we were. Just the act he ran about a bit was plus for me.

AJ & Glen both had very lacklustre 1st seasons with us.
Ironically, Benteke had a good 1st season.

yep I agree not the best game to judge him on and his confidence would have been down after the mistake the led to the first goal. However he did seem to lack energy and awareness and did sometime remind me of Benteke in the way that he was watching rather than pressing!
