The boy has had 60 minutes, in what was little short of a rear guard action. All we have proved is he might not be Lionel Messi, or another Ronaldo, as those two might have impressed as few other debutants would have in a team like that ,in a game like that.

It all comes back to lack of succession planning and investment in key areas of the team over several transfer windows. I still do not consider we are safe this season as yet bearing in mind how we fell apart at the end of last season.

As Bamfored stated, Leeds players changed to rugby studs at half time to get some grip on the s***e pitch Originally posted by Steve T
Just as well there are no supporters at Selhurst as by now they may have been a lynching or two. Palace were absolutely dire last night. No game plan and the passing was even worse than usual. Yes the pitch was a disgrace but Leeds seemed to make it work.

I don't know why people keep going on about Bamford. Until he went to Leeds nearly everyone thought he wasn't good enough for the PL, not just our club - even Biesla supposedly had his doubts. At Leeds he gets about 3-4 really good chances most games and misses some sitters that we would ridicule him for. He is doing well but I'm still not convinced and I think if they can afford to they will want to upgrade. Our strikers get about one chance a game if they're lucky.

It has been said about Bielsa that he improves players and Bamford is certainly one that has benefitted from Bielsa's coaching.

The big question is this: In the months ahead, will he prove to be more useful than Benteke, Batshuyi and/or Ayew? Ayew played well last season, but he has lost his touch lately. The other two haven't set a very high bar for Mateta to reach. I think he'll offer us more hope and a few more possibilities than they have.

I think a lot of strikers would like to play in that Leeds team. And probably do as well as Bamford does, the fact is they make real chances , and that alone can boost a reputation . The average punter doesn’t give a toss for the all round efforts of the so called striker if he isn’t scoring the once a game half chance.

I thought Bamford's movement was good, and Bielsa would have been wise enough to tell him how to exploit our lack of pace, but he was wasteful.

I agree , it is worrying , Mateta, has had some stick here for losing possession leading up to the first goal. He was robbed from behind, it happens to the best. The response of defenders was appalling . It’s not as if our defence is not used to the ball coming back to them in that situation. Wilf , will, and has lost it in those circumstances, Townsend , and Ayew, certainly have , its a fact it’s going to happen. The response is the all important thing, and it was no where near good enough on the night. That can not be laid at Matetas, door, as he never he never actually had the ball under his control.. PVA should have made a run forward to give Mitchell an option to pass the ball out. Instead he sat in his natural left back position and Mitchell played a hospital ball forward to Mateta. At least Roy realised that PVA was completely out of his depth playing on the left wing and half time and subbed him off. Can't blame PVA thought. He was asked to play out of position.

I was surprised that PvA was unable to adapt.
