Not sure I follow you re PVA. Where would you place him amongst Pearce, Irwin, Cole, Evra, Robertson etc? For me he is more of a novelty than anything. He gets goals from the centre forward position sometimes, which is odd, funny, thrilling and of some value. Against which, he defends like he's on ecstasy.

I make you right about judging players on the whole season, and Batshuyi is only as good as the chances he gets. His play outside the box is awful, but we didn't get him in for that. When he was here before, we were making chances but missing them (I'm looking at YOU Benteke), but now we just aren't making them.

I agree with you on PVA. Until our forwards are given decent service however I refuse to totally slag off Batshuyai, Benteke or Mateta. Having said that, you can’t just be a traditional centre forward any more and it looks like we potentially have three of them. The game has moved on I’m afraid and we see our CFs just watching the game instead of getting properly involved. Perhaps Mateta will surprise us, I hope so.

They are 3 points behind us with a game in hand.

Fair point well made!

I still think context is key. We are miles clear, and our points per game is loads better than the bottom three team, all of whom have not chance to improve their squads now.

And Burnley would swap with us. Their points per game doesn't suggest they will win the game in hand.

That's why I scrubbed a post I had just done at half time. I totally understand the anger, and today is probably not the time for the likes of me to try and put the managers performance in its proper context.

I'm not saying (and never have) that it's wrong to conclude that Roy should go. I just think the grounds on which he should be assessed are misjudged far too often. We let players off a tad too lightly, but more to the point, we lose track of where we are in the bigger scheme of things far too easily.

If only you could sit down and talk to our players ...and manager.

Armed with a mask.

Lower than Robertson, Cole, Evra, of course, but you named 3 of the very best.

Higher than Stuart Pearce, I think he was overrated, seems great cause he scored a lot of penalty kicks at club level.

I would also rank him below than Leighton Baines, Ian Harte, Riise, Kolarov, maybe even Danny Rose (who had some great seasons), but he still makes Top 10.
Marcos Alonso doesn't count, cause he mostly played in a 3-5-2 system and anyway, wasn't that good defensively either.

So even with his defensive faults, PVA has actually done something in football and should be respected by us.

I'm struggling to think of a midfield combination at our disposal that would provide 'service'. The closest thing we have to an old school supply line is Townsend, who is punching above his weight to be called 'average'.

I know football has moved on, but I always compare Palace sides to the Wright and Bright team. That team was set up to avoid defeat, then service the front two. Everything else was not so much a bonus as an unwelcome indulgence. You wouldn't want to be Salako, Barber or McGoldrick most days - anything other than constant good service was going to get both barrels.

I don't think Zaha and Eze are anything like Salako et al. The current two are really skillful, but very individualistic, and thats not the same as supplying service to a forward.

We'd do better to produce a poundland version of the Real Madrid forward line, where Benzema worked hard to get Bale and Ronaldo in the game. I doubt we'll see a 20 goal forward at Palace in the forseable.

Roy aside, the players are disrespecting the fans. If we were there they would get what they deserve but we aren't so they behave like prima donas. Its unacceptable, hw I wish we were there to voice our disapproval.
PVA, Luka, Benteke , Batshuayi must go. They re taking the piss

Mateta is of a preferable age and has time to settle down with Eze and a few of our other younger players if our club decides he could be of use, What I found the most irritating toady was not so much the result but the refusal to allow Mateta the game time which is required to bond together with the players around him.

I need a whole day to get over this because otherwise I may say something silly about our manager.

PVA ranks higher than Stuart Pearce? I'm struggling with that, but I do agree that not only PVA, but all our senior players should be afforded the proper respect to their abilities. Very few human beings are able to hold their ground over the course of a premier league season, a point I make every time someone suggests that we should bin the lot of them and put the youth team in.

That said, if PVA were anything other than an average top flight player, I think it would have revealed itself by now. If it walks like a duck etc...

It's alright for you lot as a good neighbour just up the road is a Burnley fan. I can't to the shops without passing his house. Unless I can glide past like Eze.

Goal difference is usually a good indicater of where a team finishes with the odd one or two exceptions

That's a fair point. Players are just human beings, and the value of a crowd giving you both barrels when you have been complete s*** shouldn't be underestimated.

Kouyate and Dann have forgotten what football is and you forgot them.
