JT may be a disgrace as a human being, but he knows his football. And him and Gary Cahill would instill a bit of backbone in the team. Not sure how all the black players would react to him.

We were not playing in the top division and decided to entrust the job to someone who had never managed before.
We were in a totally different position as a club.

Doombear you've hit the nail on the head there for me. He has already proven himself to be a very good young manager with success beyond what anyone at Bournemouth could have dreamed of when he took the job - playing really attractive football to boot.

Yes Bournemouth got relegated last year - but it doesn’t make him a bad manager. Especially when you consider the fact that he IS still young and is learning his trade. It was a very difficult season for him off the field and I expect He will have learned loads. He is a very studious and analytical fella I think there maybe that experience could make him an even better manager.

He has a keen eye for young talented players (as Willow listed about 50 pages ago) and has shown he can improve and develop them.

The more I consider our options the more I am coming to the view that we need to plan for a 5 year period and commit to a Manager who is on the rise (a track record of promotions and some EPL experience is a huge bonus).
Howe is in his early 40’s and if the worst were to happen and we get relegated he’d be very well placed to get us back up.

As Dyche showed at Burnley- getting relegated didn’t suddenly make him a bad manager did it! He showed that the following year by having a plan, believing in his philosophy and being backed by the club - they won promotion back to the Premier League at a canter.

At least if we went for Howe we’d do it in some style!

I think the Palace set up with the training ground improvements and academy investment is becoming a good environment for a Manager. If Roy remains at the club in another capacity he could be a very useful source of support for a younger Manager like Howe and this would help him to flourish.

Honestly, the more I think about it the more I feel Howe is a really good fit for us.

I have to say that of the apparent options I'd go for Howe, if Hodgson doesn't stay. I've posted before about all the quite serious questions he would have to answer at interview, and most of them are to do with what he learned from his mistakes at Bournemouth, but I think he seems the type to have asked himself those questions already.

Who is in the dugout matters far less than who is in the pitch in any event.

I'm onboard....he's probably the best option.

I guess it solves the situation where we have to explain Howe we got relegated.

Fingers crossed that pun doesn't come true.

But old Roy can't go on forever and we have to take a chance sometime.
