The Meyer I saw on many occasions was slow and had absolutely nothing in his locker other than a three yard give and go which he generally had to do before he was easily dispossessed.

He couldn't shoot, couldn't cross, couldn't impose himself on a game including against Colchester United and Grimsby.
The biggest myth and white elephant of the recent Premier League era.

You forgot to say it was Roy's fault though.

Roy tried to turn him into Jeff Schlupp but unfortunately he wasn't up to it.

He's a young man looking for a new chance, so good luck to him, but he was given plenty of chances here and he was crap.

Even Roy himself admitted that Meyer probably wasn't given the chances he should of with us so not quite sure what you're going on about..

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Think Meyer and Sorloth didn't get much of a look in - and you can trace this back to maybe players like Campana. We've not often been a possession based game. You could argue that Jairo is in the team because of others absentees

Seems to be a common problem of players signed by scouts that don't necessary fit in with team ethos esp if not a signing made by the manager.

You just have to look at Lampard at Chelsea and the problems the club spending 200m caused, which ultimately lead to him having to try to accommodate them but ultimately losing his job.

The other side of the coin is if the managers is entrusted and want to make multiple signings of their choosing, which in some cases do not lead to much improved team performance either

I'd prefer that younger players had more of a chance and thought Kirby and Banks could have played recently due to the injuries in midfield

You and I seem to have seen the same player Rachid! I would, though, add that he did have a bit of vision but wasn't able to execute often enough.

Was he not able to execute his vision because he wasn't good enough or because those around him weren't.

I'm sure that I recall you saying that you've been a Palace supporter for donkeys years so do you remember Charlie Cooke? When he joined Palace, players were used to having the ball played to their head or feet but Cooke used to pass the ball to where the player was supposed to run on to but they were rarely bright enough to see what he was doing

I do, indeed, and Meyer was a bit like that at first. Other players weren't on the same wavelength but it was up to him to adapt to the team not them to him.

Whatever you thought of him and I thought more highly than you, it would be unfair to begrudge him his new opportunity. He has had the confidence completely knocked out of him by a manager who doesn’t play in a way that suits him. Horses for courses and all that.

Not sure why you need to continually post the guy is crap when he has left the club. Just wish him well and be happy that he has gone.

Simple, because he has, IMO, been unfairly and “continually” used as a stick to beat the manager in the same way Benteke more recently has.

I look at this board every day when I finish work and not sure I’m the one that should be accused of continually posting anything.

I don’t recall any of my posts saying he was “crap” although that would loosely reflect my view. Nor that I begrudge him anything.

I retry again.

The 1st poster implied that things improved for him in the new team.
The following posters replied along this line.
And I asked, did anyone took the time to really check how things are going?
Because after reading this I thought, oh well really? Let's see!
And what I saw is this:

He's been at his new team for nearly 1 month now.

First match he was on the bench and played 1 minute.
Second match he was on the bench and didn't enter.
Third match he was on the bench and didn't enter.
Fourth match he was on the bench and played 21 mins (and this is the match the OP was referring to).

In between there was a Germany's Cup match against a low 2nd division team. He was again on the bench and played a total of 74 minutes because the match went to extra time so 44 mins+30ET, and they lost on penalties.

So to sum up a total of 22 mins in 4 matches of Bundesliga, plus a 2nd half cameo in a lower league Cup defeat.
Where did we hear that before?

It looks to me he started there the same exact way he finished here.

I don't comment about the it's the manager that knocked his confidence bulls*** that I read in the thread too, because if after seeing him play for 4 seasons, and still thinking this does not deserve me losing my time.
