Is it helpful to our players to have Ray Lewington barking instructions at them from the touchline?

A bit obvious but it can be a good thing when the players are in tune with the coaches. See Claudio Ranieri at Leicester the season they won the league. You could hear him over the crowd. If they aren’t in tune then then it isn’t good, although they could be on the way to that goal. Questionable when the coaches have been here years and we’re in February. What i don’t see very much of from Roy or Ray is any formation or positioning instructions. A lot of it from Ray is lower league and teenage level encouragement. Maybe Ray is making up for the lack of leaders. All you hear is the Scottish voice of one of the smallest players on the pitch. James MacArthur.

It would be good to see a bit more direction coming from Roy on the touchline, but he seems to leave the shouting of instructions to Ray. I watched Stan and Ollie on TV last night - good film btw - and they worked so well together. One without the other didn't get on at all. Bit like Roy and Ray.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

The benefit of no fans means you can actually hear what hes saying and as far as I can tell his barking is more encouragement than anything e.g. " go on son". I would imagine none of the players can even hear him anymore. I remember Mourinho saying something about having to coach Luke Shaw through one game by barking orders at him, tactical positions etc. This is not what Ray does. Rays contribution on the touchline is probably more annoying to the players than anything. All very sunday league.
