Because we already had players of the highest level in the squad. They came from nothing, so they had to spend to be competitive in the PL. Imagine that we didn't have Zaha. With thay buy alone, we would have spent nore than Brighton.

We spent a lot too, but we had sales as well(AWB comes to mind).

But Brighton will have a great financial future too, people who analyse finances know they promoted players who will be sold for a lot more (Trossard, Maupay, Connolly, McAllister, Lamptey, March, Dan Burn). They also have some very exciting loanees at a very young age (Gyokeres etc.)

We most certainly did not have players of the highest level in the squad when we first came up & at no point have we been anywhere near those numbers. £240m net is serious money in anyone’s book and scraping for survival on it Isn’t acceptable.

We're the Arthur over ere!

Wasn’t it Burn that got roasted by Ayew down the wing for our first goal?

Indeed it was Ayew who beat Burn and crossed for Mateta to score.

And who completely lost Benteke for the 2nd. Brighton fans not very impressed with him, still they only watch him every week

Thank you. So can owners loan an infinite amount, surely not

I probably wouldn’t have posted if I had rad ahead and seen the bigtoe punt post, having read some of his other posts on the ground development we seem to have found the one person on the internet who has a clue what they are talking about.
So if you are happy with my half knowledge!
No owners can't loan unlimited amounts to cover losess. They can lend certain things, Bloom lent Brighton money to build the stadium and the training ground. A loan to sign Mbabpe wouldn’t be allowed.
In the championship you can under fair play rules lose up to £39 in a three year period that’s for expenses like transfers, wages general day to day cost etc. Brighton consistently lost this kind of money in the championship but never exceeded the three year rolling cap, so built up debt on top of this debts they owed around £100m to Bloom for the stadium and training ground.
If Bloom hadn't been prepared to cover the cost and loan/inject money into Brighton then they would have only been allowed to lose £5m a year not £13m.
I think the limit for the premier league is about £35m a year loses but it is harder to find clarification on that. You also spread the cost of signing a player across the life of the contract. So when we signed Benteke for £30m it wasn’t £30m added on to that years books and FFP rules but £6m spread across the five years of his contract. So the net transfer spend of £240m will be spread across several years, I know a few Brighton supporters who are upset they haven’t continued to spend money I had assumed that it was Bloom wanting them to become sustainable or running out of cash but it could well be he is worried about FFP and the spending catching up with them. They were even more upset when I rand them at 10 o’clock Monday night.

Just re-read this again today, I've already pointed out that Hughton kept them up for two years with 7/8 of the players from the championship but the Palace stuff doesn't fit either.
Our first year in the prem we didn't have Zaha in fact it was our major outlay in the first couple of years.
We also has a squad that was far less premier league ready then Brighton, we finished 17th the previous season while Brighton had consistently been in the Play offs. Of the team that went up only Speroni, Delaney, Ward, Jedi , Yannick and Murray were still there at the end of the two seasons. Murray had barely played and as good as they were Jedi, Damo and Julian were getting on and needed replacing.
As for Dan Burn it is not that I don't like him actually think he gets forward quiet well if I was a supporter of a middle to upper end championship team I might even be happy if we signed him but I wouldn't be excited if we signed him .

Brighton fans don't rate him and don't think he's up to it at Premier level.
