I have seen IF, but didn't know some of it was filmed at the Manor. I'll watch it again for fun. Interestingly, the Manor was used as an orphanage for a time and that's how it was known in our house. I think the majority of the Manor was used as a school for children with special needs when we were there but oddly enough we never ever saw or heard them. It was an impressive building though run down in parts. There were also some interesting external features like the Orangery wall at the back, the massive brick dovecote and from the front as you looked across the road into Beddington Park you could still see a depression where there was once a big fishing lake.

Growing up in a household with no record player, made it a tad difficult to get into buying records. However the money saved got me my first motorbike, so not all bad. I do remember, however, the first 45 I played on a jukebox, in a cafe in Herne Bay, which was Diana by Paul Anka, and followed that up with Johnny Duncan’s, Last train to San Fernando. My wife was an ardent 45’s collector, not difficult living opposite the record shop in Church Rd SE19, her first purchase being Charlie Brown by The Coasters. Happy days.

Funny you remember your first jukebox 45 - me too. Mine was All Shook Up by Elvis in Morelli's coffee bar at Broadstairs while on holiday with my parents. I now have a jukebox at home and All Shook Up is on the first button, A1. It gets first play every time I fire up the box.

Looking back it was probably those cheap "top of the pops" type singles ... I remember my cousin buying "Gimme dat Ding" not even the original from where? ...Fred Dawes sweetshop opposite the Shirley Inn... Fred Dawes ex Palace manager and player
