If you are bored of watching box sets about serial killing/vikings and want something to watch with your mrs. Give ‘this is us’ a watch. It’s on the prime app, massive in America. Me and my mrs have been watching a few a night. Right into it.

Right mate, halfway through the first episode as I type, for the first ten minutes I thought you had turned gay but to give you credit, it’s really good pal

I've watched this since the beginning and we are now halfway through Season 5. The first season was good but its gradually gone downhill since then. There's still the occasional good episode but generally its all very smugly done and I'm feeling like I want to reach through the TV screen and give them all a good slap. The writers are squeezing every last drop out of the story lines and the flashbacks and increasing flashforwards are becoming annoying. It'll probably get a 6th season in which I hope they'll wrap it all up rather than it get cancelled due to it's self inflicting sickening smarminess.

Why worry about TODAY when TOMORROW will be even worse.

You sound like you hate it mate. But it’s taken you 80 odd hours to work that out, but you are still watching it.

On season 4 mate. Still watching it. Well worth a look in lockdown.

I assume you are not familiar with the majority of US TV. Compared to most of it, This Is Us, stands out like a shining beacon but sadly US TV programmes tend to get picked up on an idea with no idea how they are going and with no end planned. They eventually get cancelled due to poor ratings and then maybe are picked up by streaming channels. I don't "hate" This Is Us but just wish I wasn't being taken for a ride by writers.

Why not just stop watching it?
I used to really like ‘the walking dead’ , sh*t now, so don’t watch it.

OK I'll take your advice. There's reruns of NCIS on another channel.

Yep we're about half way through season 3.
Love the way it tackles real life stuff.
It's dragging a little bit, to be honest.
But I'll see it through.
Mostly because Mandy Moore is gorgeous.

Watch ‘Safe’ on Netflix. Crime murder drama about a missing late teenage lad who we know dies at a big house party, and a missing teenage female, set in a suburb in England. It’s in a gated community, which is relevant to the story. Story develops into a lot more. 8 x 47 minute episodes. I think it was made in 2018. Where do these British dramas hide on Netflix?

I kind of prefer the way we do it, to be honest. Leaving out the odd masterpiece TV that needed the 6/7 seasons (I could have sat through a couple more seasons of The Wire), generally you wish the show had been limited to two seasons of 8 episodes each and the job is done.

The economic reasons for continuing it are obvious. However, when you watch shows like the Handmaid's Tale and see how it is padded out with pointlessly lengthy flashbacks and a plotline that takes a whole season to grind out, you wish the resources that were invested in all those seasons had been invested into just one or two to produce a memorable, claustrophobic, dystopian a thriller that properly reflects the source.

If you haven't seen it, have a look at "The End of the Fu****g World" for a show that is done on a low budget and does all it needed in one season, but leaving enough for maybe a second.
