I've shaken the dust covers off this post I started in March because it now looks almost certain Roy will wave goodbye when his contract ends. I can't get to Selhurst next Wednesday, but I do hope those of you who can will give Roy the send-off he deserves. He's Palace through and through and has served us well. He deserves a loud cheer of support and thanks. I too was hoping the situation would be clear by the last home game so that he can receive a decent send off. I know the football has certainly not been the most entertaining for a while but keeping us in the league was his job and he's done that with bells. We're still very much in transition and I think the academy is still a few years away from being a real source for the first team and because of this my opinion is Dyche is the best suited replacement until we're further developed. He's probably not the most popular choice as people fear more of the same but trying to play a distinctly different style with these players, in a short offseason, with half a squad is going to be one hell of a task. If he does leave I wish I could have been there on Wednesday to show my appreciation.

I'm sure he'll get a decent send off. Almost a sad moment.

I'm not Roy's biggest fan, but I do appreciate how he has kept us up in difficult circumstances, the first season after the FdB debacle being particularly noteworthy. I can't help but think how his departure and the expiration of so many player's contracts is not mere coincidence.

I will be sad to see Roy go -its not often you get a manager who has a genuine affection for the club. Most are there purely for the glory or the cash. Our next manager and probably the one after that will fall into the glory or cash category. Then someone like Paddy or Milo will be ready to step up. I think we will have to fall before we rise again which is kind of sad but under the circumstances isn't surprising. We don't have much money, most of our owners aren't that interested, those that are don't have buckets of cash and we have an ageing squad. I suppose these things come in cycles and would love to be proved wrong but i think a tough couple of years (at least) are coming. Still more than 50 years in I still love this club and will support them no matter what. I don't think I am in the minority.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. |

He’s earned my respect during his tenure for sure. He was the perfect manager for that period of time and has left a positive mark on the history of our club - which is why now is the right time to step aside. (it would’ve been such a shame to end unceremoniously after a another dour start to a new campaign in 21/22 season with the Selhurst faithful booing him out the ground). He deserves a warm send off imo .

what i dont & cant understand is the same people who have been baying for blood on hol/twitter for the last 18 months saying they really want to show him a great send off. its massively hypocritical to say the least. you either hate him as a manager (you must do to spout the bulls*** you do) or you respect the job he has done!? in the same breath people are saying that they understand we may get relegated without him but hope we come back stronger! its not that easy, please...just dont be so fake in future. the ironic thing is that 2 months into the new season if things arnt going great you will be calling for the new managers head, rather than the safe pair of hands we currently have!

I've had plenty of issues with Roy as a manager. However, no doubt he believed he did his best, the club were happy with it. We don't all have to agree and be clappy happy all the time. I think most fans respect Roy, but just think we need a change. We don't have to agree with a person's decisions to respect them and wish them well. Roy was never going to be with us forever. Time to say goodbye. Lasted longer than most.

Not everything is black and white even though your bitter vitriol suggests otherwise. You can appreciate what Hodgson has done/achieved whilst hating the way he goes about his business.

Indeed. We should be careful what we wish for.
