Just read a lovely report in The Guardian about Joe Mercer who brought Worthington in as a player for a series of England matches after Ramsay was sacked. Worthington admitted himself if he had applied himself a bit more he could have played for Liverpool but he was a player in all senses of the word. He was one of the greats of his age.

I thought I read he failed a medical at Liverpool because he had an STD. Liverpool could have signed him as it didn't affect his fitness but the board were worried about his lifestyle.

Anyway another one of those great entertainers England never really gave a proper chance.

RIP

Off topic but you can always judge someone’s age if on hearing the letters STD their first thought is about a phone call.

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.
