One thing I do like about vinyl is that it forces you to listen to the album in the order intended by the artist as a complete body of work rather than skipping tracks or just listening to the singles like you can with streaming. For me, buying a record is a way of supporting the artist, especially during Covid when they cannot make money from touring. Being a musician is a not a glamorous/well paid lifestyle unless you're a mainstream artist that can sell out big venues so always try and do my bit so that they are still able to make the music that I like to listen to. Also there's a massive pleasure of spending an hour in a record shop browsing. And the artwork looks better in the bigger size. I am cynical about certain things. My brother is a musician. I get the musicians plight, but I also recognise that they are merely entertainers, wandering minstrels if you like. I don't see why they should expect to earn a load of money for playing an instrument or singing. Most people have to do proper jobs for that. Don't get me wrong, I think we need these guys. We look up to them in some ways, but they shouldn't get above their station. Most pops stars are not that talented anyway and many very talented musicians will only scrape a living vinyl or no vinyl.

I have always loved music, early faysworked in record stores since before I was old enough to properly work and have a huge collection of all formats (vinyl, tape,CD, DAT etc.) Spent more money than I care to remember and still do. For me vinyl is only as good as the kit you play it on. I use a Linn Sondec from the early 90's and have a double set of Technics decks as back up. For me vinyl is the thrill of the chase. Rummaging and finding that gem, be it in a record shop, charity shop or car boot.

Couldn't agree more which is why I choose to do what I can to support the smaller ones as every penny counts. Loads of people jack it in because it's not financially viable and streaming is set up to benefit the platforms and the record companies rather than the artist themselves.

Rummaging through record stores like Bonapartes and Beanos and maybe just buying an album because yiou like the cover or the name of the band, or an artist appearing on it. Priceless, and in time has proved to be a profitable hobby. Also getting up every 20 minutes to flip an album is no real hassle even at my advanced age, also means because you don't skip around tracks so much you give the music more attention. Also you often have quite a lot to read on the album cover to keep you amused while you listen. Last point, albums are very convenient for building spliffs on. I rest my case.....

I recently got a mint copy of the Quadrophenia Album with booklet (Greatest album ever) to replace my old copy that was lost/stolen. My Dad has well over 7000 45s 1000 LPs and a bunch of 78's guess what I will inherit.

They're not that convenient. I just tried skinning up on Rumours but my stuff kept on flying off and spinning around. Eventually a bud got caught up in the stylus and left me with a scratched album.

Yes there were a few about. The Bromley one was in the Market Square, I also think there was one in Guildford. Always popped (wasted whole afternoons) in Beanos when I was at college.

Vinyl records. MP3's etc. I sold my vinyl about 4 years ago for £100, and bought an MP3 player and 4 bottles if JD.

I noticed when looking for mp3s online they have (vinyl edition) added. I've been able to replace all my old vinyl with these. My son is a devotee of vinyl and considers me a philistine.
