I enjoy both CD and Vinyl and play via valve amps. Vinyl is obviously dependent on the record surface but for high quality you need a good phono stage either mc or mm and a good cartridge.

Some one said about inner grooves being compressed, that is not the case, most people use a 9" arm that cannot correctly track inner grooves which is why serious individuals use 12" arms to counteract that effect.

My vinyl collection started in 1972 with T-Rex Metal Guru on 7", which I still have, and continued through to the early 80's until I married and sold loads off.

For the past 10 years I've been recouping what I sold and adding more. I currently have over 2000 albums, 300 singles, over 200 12" singles and 8 10" singles and still adding.

I have only listed 1,516 of my albums on discogs so far and they value what I have as:- Min = £7,472.07, Median = £15.692.75 & Max = £35,430.232.

I still buy but not the new re-pressings as I prefer the originals from the 70's until the 90's.

My Sanyo music centre. New head and cartridge fitted about 2 years ago and changed cartridge again last year as well as the belt.

Music centre... you do not hear that term anymore, I use to have a Ferguson ( what ever happened to them). I bet your Sanyo has given loads of pleasure and great value for money.

Your collection is obviously worth a lot, I sometimes look at old record shops or ebay and I am amazed at the prices compared with a few years back!

Despite their age, 78s generally have little or no value, maybe because of the ability to play them, their fragile nature or possibly because of the sheer volume sold. Go around any antique shop/fair/auction and you will see piles of the damned things. I still hold on to the ones left me by my uncle back in the 70s in the vain hope that they become valuable.
