I have never shared her politics, we were on opposite sides of the house but she seemed a pleasant and erudite lady.
God rest her soul.

My thoughts go out to her family and friends at this sad time.
RIP.

RIP, Shirley Williams.
Proper Labour, not todays mob
(yes I know she ended up Lib.)
An important figure through the 80s.

Very much so.
And to prove it, she became a baroness.

It's great to see that those socialists remain loyal to their ideals. She definitely served her country well by being in the opposition for most of her career, but it's true that in comparison to today's shambolic joke of Labour Party, she was a colossus.

Anyway, RIP.

A lady whose political crusades did more to harm the working classes than almost any other in the 20th century. Instrumental in destroying the Grammer school system that offered so many kids from disadvantaged backgrounds a way out, imposing on them the soulless Comprehensive system. All whilst ensuring her own daughter managed to get a place in the kind of Grammer school she sort to deny to millions of others.

A great example of the worst kind of hypocritical Labour MP that makes them so so toxic to anybody from a working-class background with an IQ in double figures.

A repellent lady who was firmly part of the modern political class that has wrought such terrible damage on British society.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." - 1984 - George Orwell.

not a fan then?
I think she's pretty tame in relation to current Labour.
Fair point about the schools.

Ultimately a failed politician.

She was sacked by the electorate in 1979 and in 1981 left the Labour party to form the SDP which also failed. With no political home to go to she and the rump joined the Liberals and never had elected office again.

Her crowning glory was introducing comprehensive education which many of us would dispute as an achievement. She levelled the playing field all right, downwards.

Anyway RIP.
