This post has been merged from a topic called 'Superleague' by becky Now there are no longer any fans present at games they need to think how best to sell space in all these massive stadiums. Maybe 5-10k maximum. Maybe private indoor glass dining or even like hotel. Rooms. £1000 per night per game. What I loved about football, the atmosphere well that’s gone. Look a like this will all be money driven and predominantly designed for tv. Well they can keep it. I’ll take up tiddlywinks.

Player power will it decide? It occurs to me that fate of this ESL will probably be settled in the courts and it could be that the players have a huge say either way. I suspect that most players contracts mention the domestic competitions e.g. we will pay you xx per Pl game. So: Players at the big 6 could use this to negotiate new and bigger contracts. Those clubs desperate to keep their star players and hoping to attract the best of the rest will pony up. Or a player who wants to play international football and appear in the domestic competitions could claim that the club has broken their contract by their actions. They could in theory walk on a free.

Simply North Korea / Russia level posturing to get even more favourable terms out of existing bodies and therefore competitions. Because, as we all know, those clubs really could do with the additional money, power and influence. At some point those who have the ownership dollar (and this includes fifa, uefa etc.) need to understand that exponential growth is not possible unless you destroy the entire reason football has become successful in the first place. Things have to evolve, sure. But throwing the baby out with the bath water and filling the bath with cash monai is not the way to go about it. Good post. The problem is the owners do not give a jot about football as we know it, all about money. Interesting that several of the clubs are owned by Americans.

They could in theory walk on a free. ‘the clubs committed to the Super League do not intend to compete in UEFA competitions such as the Champions League if the plan comes to fruition.’ Not just player power, managers as well. This is Posturing, pure and simple. No manager or player worth their salt will be happy to say goodbye to the UCL for this. If they’d said it would work alongside then I might have thought it would have more of a chance. They want to get back to the negotiating table with UEFA and carve out new terms that favour them more heavily. I can’t see any scenario that will mean this breakaway happens.
