So Jose sacked for taking a stand (allegedly) and Klopp rumoured to be kicking off this morning...

Plus several club higher ups have started to resign from their UEFA and ECL roles. That's going further than I anticipated!

What a mess – who knows what is going to happen now. But I can't see it ending positively for the owners of these clubs.

Wonder if Mourinho would manage here.

If it goes ahead, they have to be thrown out of the league.

Winning the Super League is 23 games. Winning the Champions League is 13.

Those 10 extra games mean they'll buy even more players, and have even bigger squads. They'll play B sides in the Premier League because why play your best players against Burnley when you had Real Madrid on Wednesday and have Barcelona on Tuesday? It would completely devalue the Premier League. Those B sides will just be the players they pinch off the teams that finish 7th/8th/9th each season, making the gap bigger every season.

If sacrificing those 6 teams is what it takes to create a truly competitive Premier League, albeit at a lower overall standard, where you don't have to play 1/3 of your games with 11 men behind the ball to try to prevent a drubbing, I'm okay with that.

Those 6 clubs have done irreparable damage to their reputations though. All that atmosphere built up from their history (I'm more thinking Liverpool & United than City and Tottenham here) has gone up in smoke in one statement.

It’ll be interesting when the TV rights are negotiated. Can’t see many Sky customers coughing up however much extra every month to pay for this.

Well we won't need to

There would likely be less for us overall. It's worrying how much we rely on TV money. What we all need is for players to earn less. Their wages are outrageous. Especially considering the effort some put in.

Let them go. Figure out the merge with Scotland to create some interest, maybe promote extra championship teams and move on.

The usually reliable Athletic saying they understand that he was sacked because of results only, nothing to do with the ESL. So maybe just a classic Twitter rumour. Shame, would be good if true

Boris Johnson has said the government will do everything it can to make sure the new European Super League “doesn't go ahead in the way that it's currently being proposed”.

So in that case, and as Starmer is involved, what time is kick-off?

It's ultimatley UEFA's Fault.
They keep expanding the Champions league, none of the big european super powers wanted that.

UEFA haven't listened, And whilst this idea has been bandied around/Threatened for a few years now, this time seems to have a little more substance to it.

The Yanks have always wanted to change the format to make it more profitable. It appears they are seeing this as the perfect opportunity. Each time UEFA don't budge, the possibility of it actually happening gets higher.

Leaves the players involved in a potentially awkward position if they’re threatened with no more international games.
Is playing for Ivory Coast more important to Wilf than earning a bigger fortune?

If this happens, I think Wilf surely goes to Arsenal. Arsenal get the money and the "big football", and a rubbish enough team that they need to buy players. All the issues suddenly disappear.

I can't see any player making any statement for a long time yet. They don't want to end up on the wrong side of this. Someone like Gigi Wijnaldum or Sergio Aguero, with a contract up in 10 weeks time, are in a very awkward position. Do you sign for a "Super League team" and take the risk?

It's at least pleasing to see that football fans around Europe seem to be unified in their response to this.

ESL greeted with a glorious archers salute. They are lucky that fans aren't in stadiums at the moment as no doubt there would have been a very vocal backlash.
