Perez says it isn't over yet well it is for now so what's his game. Real Madrid are in the brown stuff financially so maybe he is looking for compo from the clubs that have withdrawn?

Funny if Madrid are broke how come they keep being linked with top players? It maybe gossip but I hope the media remember this during the transfer window and if they do sign players remind the public.

Very percipient. Except the Newcastle part obviously.

TBF, Newcastle were quite 'elite' back then. They did the double over us in 1994/95 for starters!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

They were but it shows how transient elite status can be - had the ESL been introduced back then Newcastle would have probably been in it for the next 23 years.

Perez has said that without the Super League Real won’t be able to sign either Haarland or Mbappe.
I’m sure the rest of football shares their pain at this sad time.

Perhaps we could start a crowd funding page for them.

Or bring in a new law whereby any player they want to sign should be free with Real receiving compensation for relieving their clubs of the burden of paying their wages.

Well they wanted an NFL type system so how about a draft where the dirty dozen are allowed to sign the best players for free and everybody else has to pay.

Sounds fair. The opposition goalkeeper could also be tied to the post and goals scored by clubs with “Real Madrid” in their name should count double or treble.

I understand where you're coming from however it still enshrines football's current top order meaning that no 'second rate Eastern European league' or challenger club will ever have a chance. There are plenty of European titans of yesteryear that have faded away, such is the cycle of success. That cycle should always be left to play out.

The issue I have with this whole this is that in actual fact the concept of the ESL is not a bad one.

Who Doesn't want to have a league which includes *only* the best teams in the World playing, rather than the over inflated competition which includes some dross opposition from some second rate eastern european league that is the Champions league.
Also, a league with the 'most supported'( ?) clubs in the world will naturally attract higher TV audiences which therefore means more TV money. I get it.

UEFA have been up in arms about it - but lets not quibble the fact that they are only mortified because it'll be in direct competition to them and will devalue their product.

They are supposed to govern all football in Europe, and this also a challenge to their monopoly of power, which to be frank, isn't a bad thing.

The issue is how they have gone about it, and how they have the sanctimonious right-to-be-there-every-year attitude. They have not talked to anyone in footballing world, and have not considered anyone but themselves.
Perez's argument that they all have massive debt that they have to find a solution to - but the answer is not to 'get more money'. It's to reduce the simply terrifying outgoings that these clubs have - Wages. And whose responsible for paying these wages? We'll, I blame a lot of that to the frankly ridiculous electorial ownership system that Real Madrid have in Place. "If you vote for me I'll buy x", meaning that they end up spending millions just to live up to their Manifesto. this pushes the price up for everyone else. It's not the only reason, (yes that'll be the Agents), but It's a big factor.

Football is run as a Business nowadays. it's unavoidable - and that's OK. But this does bring it's own challenges. Money gained from Europe is so much of a prize nowadays, that clubs cannot forecast as a business if they cannot say if they're going to get it or not. so the idea of no relegation appears.
Unfortunately that's pretty much everything that Football Stands against, and is intrinsic to the Structure of all leagues. Again This is not the answer.

What's required is a system whereby not getting into European competition is not the Death of their finances, one where any team can qualify if they are good enough, and when they actually get to the Creme de la Creme, they are not forced to play horribly inferior opposition.
UEFA talk about Expanding the CL. But I say the opposite - Reduce it, increase the group sizes (or only have one) if you have to. Make it so only the best in the respective countries get in.
Expand the Europa. let this be the competition that the 3rd team in belgium get into, as a way of allowing them to progress.
Restructure TV money to allow it to filter into the Leagues of the highest achieving teams. i.e. If Real madrid win, and Arsenal are runners up, then the Spanish League(not RM) gets more money that the PL.

Point is it's not a bad idea. just Executed by a bunch of tosspots.

End of ramble.

We have a coeffient system, which while isn't perfect, has the right idea.
Instead of the top 4 getting into the CL and the next 3 into the Europa, let the top 2 into the CL and the next 5 into europa.

Teams who achieve in their own leagues still get rewarded by a place in the top european competition.

by making the CL a league of fewer teams, rather than smaller groups with more overall teams, you should get consistently get the games the world wants to see.

Can’t understand why Spurs were involved, they are hardly a top 6 side. Not won anything in nearly 40 years and average Premier league position is 8th.

Even ruined Mourinihos record of winning a trophy at every club he has managed.
