This is how they got round the rules. Both were owned by a Qatar Government Investment fund, making them Qatar state owned (in reality the ruler of Qatar). To get round the rules for the Champions League, two in the ruling family have taken over different arms of Qatari Investment funds and split the clubs between the two arms of, realistically, the exact same entity.

Our owners own other teams, so do plenty of others, but it only becomes a problem in the same competition.

I agree; he gives every impression of being a very steady hand on the tiller with sound judgement. Equally, he is a clear communicator and seems to handle pressure well.
From what I observe, he also behaves in a way that sets the whole culture of the club; players seem generally happy at Palace and the culture of the club, from top to bottom, is strong.

I take your point about overpaying on wages; however, the two that stand out are Benteke and Sakko and Palace, at the time, seemed to want to make a statement that they wanted to move to the next level and attract the higher quality player. It certainly hasn't turned out as planned and both have certainly not lived up to expectations; the financial hit on both is significant.
It's interesting to note that the approach now seems much more about attracting and developing younger talent - far mores sustainable for a club like Palace and in line with their traditions.
Agree re the main stand issue; that is so critical in making the next step as a PL club from so many perspectives. These projects always seem beset with delays but this more than most it seems!
